Dear Middleton Families,
Last Friday, ten Middleton students competed in the district chess tournament and WON! We are so proud of them! Congratulations to: Cameron Stubblefield, Chase Horton, Tyson Blackwell, Aiden Stomberg, Preston Erickson, Ryan Cho, Tanner Telles, Aayansh Dogra, Sean Bacca and Luke Hay.
This week, our school staff has been spoiled by students, parents, and our amazing PAC. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. It has been a really fun week for all of us. Thank you!

All Things Kindergarten!
Kindergarten Open House
Do you have a student starting Kindergarten in the 25-26 school year? If so, please join us at our Kindergarten Open House on March 13 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. At this event, you and your incoming kindergartener will get to complete some fun activities, get a snack in the lunchline, see our classrooms and meet our kindergarten teachers, and tour the school! We look forward to seeing you there!
Kindergarten Registration
Registration for 2025-2026 kindergarten students is now open! CLICK HERE to register. Incoming Kindergarten students must turn 5 prior to September 1. Registering early helps the school and district start planning for the fall.
During online registration, new families will create a Sherwood ParentVUE account. Parents of current and former Sherwood students will log in with their existing ParentVUE account. Please call the Middleton front office at 503-825-5300 if you have any questions.
Families are also welcome to register using paper registration. Paper registration packets can be picked up from the Middleton front office.
If you know a family who will have a kindergartener at Middleton in the fall but is not yet a part of our school community, please pass along this information.
Horseshoe Hop
Volunteers are needed to help us with one of the most fun nights at Middleton, our Horseshoe Hop on Friday, February 21st, from 6:00-7:30. Please click on the link here to see how you can help!
Get ready to light up the night at our Neon-Themed Dance Party. Bring the whole family along for an unforgettable evening! Revel in the beats spun by our DJ, capture memories in the photo booth, and light up the night with fun glow accessories. Pizza and cotton candy will be available for purchase. **ALL STUDENTS/KIDS MUST HAVE AN ADULT PRESENT WITH THEM**
Due to your overwhelming support for this year's Fun Run, the annual Horseshoe Hop is FREE to all Middleton Families. However, you are welcome to bring a non-perishable item to help wrap up and support our food drive.
Food Drive
It is time for our annual Ducks vs. Beavers Food Drive benefiting The Helping Hands Food Pantry. Donations will be collected from Tuesday, February 18th - Friday, February 21st. To support our efforts please bring in unexpired, non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to "VOTE" for the Ducks or Beavers by placing your items in the appropriate team's box. Donations will be collected throughout school hours and at the Horseshoe Hop. While all donations are appreciated, some suggestions include:
- Tuesday - canned food items (fruits, vegetables, proteins and soups)
- Wednesday - pastas, cereals and other grains
- Thursday - pantry staples, baking mixes
- Friday - personal hygiene, baby items, kid snacks
February Character Trait Focus: Self Confidence
Our character trait for February is self confidence. Self confidence is defined as trusting yourself, your skills and your abilities. Confidence is feeling like it’s okay to be you, even when you’re not the “best” at something. We will also remind students that arrogance is an exaggerated sense of importance, or believing that you are smarter or better than others. Self-confidence, other the other hand, doesn't compare one's own self to others.
To connect learning from school to home, consider asking some of the following questions:
- Consider this quote: Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” What does this tell us about confidence?
Where is an area that you will choose to build more confidence? (maybe at school, in a sport, at home with a task. Encourage students to explain why building confidence in this area could be helpful.)
What might happen if NOBODY was confident?!

Inclement Weather Reminders
At this time of year, it's important to be ready for inclement weather communications. Please make sure your ParentSquare account is active and your FlashAlert subscription is current. In the event of emergencies, inclement weather, or urgent alerts (such as bus route delays) Sherwood School District will utilize one or more of the following communication methods to provide information and updates to families and staff:
ParentSquare – This is a school-to-home communication tool that will send district or school-level alerts, newsletters, or announcements to the parent/guardian information on file with the school. If your email address or phone number has changed, please update your contact information with your child’s school office.
FlashAlert – All emergency alerts and inclement weather closures/delays will be broadcast via FlashAlert. This is a free subscription service that alerts users via text or app notifications. Sign up at www.flashalert.net/signup or by downloading the FlashAlert app on your smartphone. If you have signed up for FlashAlert previously, please sign in to make sure your subscription is current. If you are not subscribed to our channel, you can search for “Sherwood Sch. Dist.” to sign up for our district’s alerts.
District Website – All high-priority alerts will be posted to the main SSD website (look for a red or green alert bar at the top of the page).
Vision Screening
We are offering a free vision screening for all students on Tuesday, February 18th. This screening is conducted by the Lions Club with the assistance of parent volunteers, using SPOT screening devices. The screening is painless and performed from a distance, without touching your child’s eyes or face.
Screening Results
Results will be available in about a week.
Most children pass the exam.
"Did not pass" results will be sent home with students via backpack mail.
If you would like a copy of your child’s "passing" results, please contact your school office.
If you do not want your child to participate in the vision screening, please contact your school office to opt out. If you have questions about the vision screening, contact Health Services at 503-825-5093. If your child needs an eye exam or glasses, financial assistance may be available.
