Digital Wellness for Teens: Insights and Tips for Families
The Science Behind Social Media and Teens
As parents and educators, we see every day how technology shapes the lives of our teens. While cell phones and social media offer many benefits, they can also create challenges for focus, mental health, and well-being.
In this new series, we’ll share articles and resources to help families better understand the impact of technology and explore ways to foster healthy habits.
This week’s feature:

This article dives into how excessive social media use can affect mental health, particularly for adolescents. It highlights the latest research and offers tips for navigating social media use responsibly.
Stay tuned for the next article in two weeks, where we’ll explore the connection between screen time and academic performance.
🏈 Coach Hanson Named Coach of the Year! 🏆
Big news, Cardinals! Our incredible FPHS Football Coach, Trevor Hanson, has been named Sports Illustrated’s SBLive 2024 Class 2A Coach of the Year for Washington State! 🎉
This is an amazing accomplishment and a well-deserved recognition for a coach who has poured so much into our football program and students. True to his humble nature, Coach Hanson didn’t even share the news himself—we found out through one of our other coaches (classic Coach Hanson, right?).
Coach Hanson, thank you for your dedication, leadership, and heart. You’ve brought out the best in our team and inspired our school and community. Let’s celebrate this incredible milestone and show Coach Hanson some love!
Congratulations, Coach Hanson! You make us proud to be Cardinals! 🐦💪
Update on Boys Restroom in the Commons
Dear Franklin Pierce Students and Families,
I want to provide an update regarding the boys' restroom in the commons. After being closed for repairs due to significant vandalism earlier last week, we anticipate reopening the restroom on Monday.
I sincerely hope we will not face this type of situation again. These shared spaces are a reflection of our community, and they deserve respect and care. I encourage all students to take pride in our school and speak up if they see behaviors that could harm our facilities or the sense of belonging we work so hard to foster.
To the families, thank you for having conversations at home about the importance of respect and responsibility. To our students, I believe in you and know that together we can maintain a school environment that reflects the very best of who we are.
With gratitude and determination,
Principal Marzano
