MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This weekend we celebrate ‘The Solemnity Of The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Christ’.
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins." (Mt 26:26-28; cf. Mk 14:22-24, Lk 22:17-20, 1 Cor 11:23-25)
So, what's this devotion all about, and why is it important? Most of us come to Mass every Sunday, and many during the week. Though that's very good, there is the danger of our taking the Mass for granted. So, the feast of Corpus Christi, or Body of Christ, should give us the chance to reflect on what may have become too routine. If familiarity doesn't here breed contempt it can easily lead to complacency. Hopefully our celebration of Corpus Christi would renew and fire up our wonder and gratitude for the gift of the Mass.
We believe that at every Mass Christ's sacrifice of the cross is made present on the altar for the local community. Our crucified and risen Lord continues to offer Himself to His Heavenly Father, as, on our behalf, He makes our peace with God. And we are united with Christ in offering ourselves in loving service of God and each other. The Mass should sum up and re-enforce our whole lives as generous givers, rather than selfish grabbers.
The feast of Corpus Christi reminds us that in the Eucharist, Christ is present in a very special way, and gives Himself to us in the form of a meal. We believe that the bread and wine are changed into Christ's own Body and Blood. This meal nourishes us so that we can grow as Christians. We call this meal, 'Holy Communion. Our personal communion with God and our fellow members within the Church is expressed and strengthened by our sharing the one Body and Blood of Christ. The Blessed Sacrament helps us to deepen our understanding and devotion of the Mass and we are encouraged to receive this Sacrament on a daily basis.
Winter Sport Carnival
On Tuesday the 1st of June, all of the Year 6 students and selected Year 5 students attended the Winter Carnival at Kingsway Sporting Complex. This carnival involved eight schools competing in three sports, AFL, Soccer and Netball throughout the day. The students selected which sport they competed in.
The day was highly anticipated by all and we were lucky the sun was out and shining. The emphasis on the carnival was on participation and fun, so the teams were advised against scoring the games. In saying that I can say that all of the teams had a fantastic day and displayed true sportsmanship skills towards each other and the other competitors. Acknowledging that most of the students had only played once as a team, it was a great sight to see everyone stepping up and progressing throughout the day.
A big thank you also to the teachers and parents who helped coach and supervise the team. It is very much appreciated by all and we couldn’t run these events without your help. A special thank you to Emily Rasmussen for coordinating this event.
Well done St Luke’s!
Cross Country
Congratulations to all our classes who ran the cross country event last week. We are so proud of your determination to finish to the end.
UNIFORM
Unfortunately, we are continuing to see, students wearing items of clothing which is not in line with the uniform policy. I am aware of delays of the winter school jumper and students wearing their sports jackets in its place. This is unavoidable and until the jumpers arrive, this is permitted.
However, what is not permitted:
- Wearing items of clothing that have been purchased from Big W, Target and K-Mart. These are not in line with the uniform policy or acceptable.
- Nail polish on the girls. Please remove nail polish prior to attending schools.
- Wearing sport shoes with their winter uniform. Unless we are notified in writing as to why your child is wearing different shoes, this too is unacceptable.
- Hair below the shoulder, MUST be tied up and off the face.
Over the next coming weeks, teachers will be enforcing these requirements in their classes. Please revise the updated uniform policy for your perusal. There is are second hand uniforms available for those families who are needing support.
We thank you for your support as we strive to instill pride in all of our children at the school. If there is an ongoing issue or concern, please feel free to contact me: maura.killalea@cewa.edu.au.

Hands on Service Day- Pupil Free Day Friday for Staff
Our children need time, not stuff
A recent UNICEF study shows that our children need time, not stuff, and that countries in which children are happiest are those that value family time and family experiences.
I’n What’s Happening to our Boys, and What’s Happening to our Girls, Psychologist Maggie Hamilton explores the emotionally complex, over-stimulated 21st century world our children must navigate. The acquisition of computer games is paramount, and kids spend endless hours each day engaged in virtual worlds. Cyber bullying, the power of marketing aiming to seduce our children at every turn with rampant materialism, and concerns about body image both amongst boys and girls are just a few of the challenges our children face daily. Under huge pressure, their anxiety levels are growing, leaving parents largely at a loss and equally anxious. The freedoms our children experience leave them more vulnerable and more in need of structure than ever before’.
(Taken from: https://kidsgivingback.org)
Volunteering immerses our children in real life, helping others and interacting with people from all walks of life. In volunteering our children discover their own strengths and qualities, and use these to help others. Some consider it a preventive ingredient to balance our children from the materialistic consumer world we live in.
Volunteering is a two way street, giving children and their families an opportunity to change lives, including their own.
As one of our Values includes Service, this year, part of our Evangelisation Plan is to ensure that all children in the school are given the opportunity, throughout the year, to provide Service to a charity. This term, we have seen Year 4, Year 2 and Year 3 classes prepare for their Service Act.
Year 4 – St Vinnie’s Blanket Appeal
Year 3 – Make a toy donation – Smith Family
Year 2 – Gift for the Elderly in the community (Aged Care visits have been restricted due to Covid)
These wonderful interactions will be communicated to the community and will also be displayed on our new Service Wall in the office. Staff this Friday will be involved in a Service Day, volunteering their time to the community. Lots of photos will be shared.
Have a fabulous long weekend, stay safe, laugh lots and be kind to one another.
God Bless,
Mrs Maura Killalea

This week at youth group was quite an amazing night. We had 23 young people join us for the night, which included our guest speaker, Georgia. We started off the night with a game of Back-to-Back relay which was super fun and funny to watch! We then went into a game of Chinese whispers charades where the scores were really close and deciding the winning team was hard. After the fun and games, we sat down in a circle where Georgia gave us a talk about her experiences with miracles. This was followed with the young people sharing about their 24-hour surprises from the previous week. We then ate some Pizza and got to hang out during some fellowship time.
