Frankley School Newsletter

Our legendary Frankley School carnival was a raging success again, rain and thunder made it all the more interesting at set up time! We made $26,500 on the day. A huge thanks to the team who made it happen and to our old hands who supported our parents taking on new roles on SFRC. A special farewell to Anita Scrivener and Tinaca Parkes who have played a major role over the years in all our fundraisers. Their drive and passion for Frankley School is to be celebrated and congratulated as their youngest children move on to Intermediate. We love it when people offer their expertise and skills and Travis Mackay from CPR, Comprehensive Property Reports has also made a welcome contribution to our junior hubs fixing and strengthening our trolleys. Cheers Travis.

As Robyn and I tidy things up for the end of school financial year we would really appreciate payment of any outstanding accounts. Please contact Robyn if you have any queries.

Staffing 2020 Hubs

We have been very busy organising staffing and hubs for 2020. We are very fortunate to have highly skilled teaching staff, learning assistants and administration staff. We have managed to place part time staff in hubs to support our learning programmes. Hub placements for our learners have also been completed and will be sent out in Week 8. A lot of care and thought has gone into these decisions. We think about many aspects to set children up for success. Jenny Cooksley has taken leave for term 1 and 2 next year as she continues to care for her husband John. Jess Uru will be in Te Puāwai for the entirety of 2020.

The first day for our students is Tuesday 4 February 2020. The last day is Wednesday 16 December 2020.

School Camps 2020

As per our Frankley School Policy all adults attending school overnight trips will need to be police vetted. When you have received the information about your child’s hub placement and you would like to attend their camp in 2020 please contact Robyn King in the office for the paperwork to do this. This must be done by the end of this school year. I am happy to answer any questions about this process.

School Pool

Rangi Trinder is working on getting our pool up and running. We desperately need helping hands to keep our pool running over the summer months, especially over the holiday period. Please contact Robyn in the office if you can help. Training will be given and a free pool key! Pool keys will be available for families as soon as we have enough volunteers.

A big thanks to Steve Francis for stepping in while Rangi was away to help keep our grounds and school looking great.

Learning with Digital Technologies (LwDT) Vision

At Frankley School we use technology to grow global critical and creative thinkers. It helps support our students to be makers and creators of knowledge. Technology at Frankley School offers opportunities for our students to engage with the curriculum, to develop their Cross Competency skills and Learning Attitudes and to prepare them for the modern world that they live in.

Within our older classes we try to maintain at least a 1:2 ratio of devices to students. This has allowed us to make excellent use of Google Education tools. Each student has their own Google Account which allows learning across the curriculum in powerful ways. It has also allowed for increased collaboration and enhanced teacher and peer feedback in learning tasks. Devices provided by the school are either Chromebooks or iPads.

At Frankley School we run a B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Device) programme from Year 3 up. Students in our hubs are allowed to bring an approved device to use in their learning across the curriculum. The school has created a policy around this that outlines our vision for Learning with Digital Technologies protocols and guidelines around BYOD and an agreement that each student taking part will need to sign on a yearly basis. Devices will still be available in classrooms for students that do not bring a device. It is a requirement that students taking part in the programme bring their device on a daily basis.

If you would like to view our BYOD policy or have any questions about BYOD please make contact with one of us. As we have throughout this year, we would encourage you to come into the classroom to see how your child is learning and making use of technology.

The 2019 Christmas Foodbank Food Drive is taking place on Monday 2nd December from 5.30pm until late and we are trying to get the word out to as many people as possible about this community event. We would appreciate your support in spreading the word to the school whanau and beyond!.

All donations are distributed back into our community to families and people in need throughout 2020; donations of non-perishable food items and/or household products will be greatly received.

The food drive takes place in New Plymouth and Bell Block - the collection goes ahead RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE!!

During the drive donations can be left near the letterbox or front gate for collection or can be handed directly to our friendly volunteers as the collection teams drive around each neighbourhood. Sirens or music will be playing when they are in each area.

Help us to make this a successful drive and fill the foodbank shelves for the coming year!
