NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
As a school community, we recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday, September 29th. Our prayers for this week have included information about the Calls to Action from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In 2008, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed. Their job was to listen to stories about residential schools and write down important things we can do as Canadians to learn from our mistakes. These are the TRC's 94 Calls to Action. The 6 Calls to Action below are some actions we can help students learn.
This morning, we gathered as a school community in a spirit of prayer and reflection around the topic of truth and reconciliation and understanding more about the impact of residential schools. Then, as a classroom activity, the students wrote words of remembrance completed around the theme of "Remembering the Children." The prayers and words of remembrance were written on orange hearts, which are now up in the main hallway as a visual of remembrance.
We are always remembering the children and that Every Child Matters.

Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 1-7, 2023
In Canada, mental illness impacts 1.2 million of our children and youth. By the time they reach age 25, that number increases to around 1 in 5 Canadians. Mental Illness Awareness Week encourages public education and brings awareness to mental illnesses while supporting Canadians to share their experiences. Spreading awareness, education, and support is crucial in supporting children, youth, and families affected by mental illness (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2021).
We can create impactful change by having open conversations, reducing stigma, and normalizing accessing help for mental health. Here are some resources on how to support a loved one with their mental health:
