Brown Elementary Update

January 24, 2025
From the Desk of Dr. Cole Harms
Hello Brown Bears!
We have had a great start to January!
We had an amazing response for the Massachusetts School Library Association Bookmark Contest. Thank you to everyone who participated! It was so hard to choose who will go on to compete for the big prizes at the state level! Our judges selected the following:
Division 1 Brown School WINNER (Kindergarten and 1st grade): Dani McElroy in Ms. McGinty's class
Division 2 Brown School WINNER (2nd and 3rd grade): Lyddie Funk in Mr. Albert's class
Division 3 Brown School WINNER (4th grade): Lucas Kim in Ms. Tilden's class
We also had some incredible honorable mentions.
Division 1 honorable mentions: Evelyn Ostberg and Mia Pendleton
Division 2 honorable mentions: Camille Handing, Mason Gravel, and Sidd Hiremagalur
Division 3 honorable mentions: Caroline Ho and Ariba Muneem
Congratulations to the winners and the honorable mentions. Your prize at the school level is a FREE BOOK! Please see Mrs. Francis after 2:40 this afternoon (Friday) or sometime next week. Cross your fingers for a Brown School bookmark win in all of Massachusetts! The state winners will be announced in March.
In addition, we received a "Thank You" note from A Place to Turn regarding the 177 pounds of food that the Brown School Community donated during our food drive. What an incredible accomplishment!
I hope this finds you warm and well!
Erica
DROP OFF REMINDERS
As the weather grows colder, we want to remind families who drop off their children by car of a few important guidelines to help keep the line moving efficiently and minimize the time students spend outside in the cold.
Drop-off begins at 8:20 AM. Please ensure that students do not exit the vehicle until they see adults outside. This is for everyone's safety.
Students should not exit the vehicle until you have passed the K-1 playground fence (the playground near KMS).
If your student is able to unbuckle and open the door by themselves, please encourage them to do so. The adults outside are there to assist and ensure safety, but allowing your child to open the door independently will help keep the process moving smoothly.
Please remain in line. Avoid pulling past other vehicles to drop off students even if there is space at the front. This practice is not only for everyone's safety but will also help the line move more quickly.
Drop off is at the front of the school only: Please do not drop students off in the parking lot and have them walk. This is for everyone's safety.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our students safe and warm during drop-off!

Student Shout Outs
Gr. 1 - Helena Rangel: Helena showed kindness when she took care of a friend who got hurt at recess. She told another student to go get a teacher so she could stay with the student who was hurt. She then walked her friend to the nurse and made sure he felt better and was ok.
Gr. 2 - Nina Lavoine: Nina is a responsible and respectful learner for all of Brown School to celebrate! She always is doing the right thing on her own and is always willing to help a friend in need. She cares about her classmates and importantly she cares about her learning! She is always asking questions during lessons, follows directions in her work and puts her best effort into everything she does! Thank you for being an awesome Brown School Bear and a student we can all look to for a role model!
