What is 916 Career & Tech and How do I register?
916 Career & Tech Center is a hands-on technology and trades school that partners with North High School, Tartan High School and 13 other school districts in north and east metro. They offer hands-on customized training opportunities for our students. Classes meet on the East campus of Century College.
If you are interested in this program and a current 10th or 11th grader, you need to register for a full schedule (18 classes) AND also complete a 916 Career and Tech application. Your schedule will be adjusted when enrollment is confirmed.

RIGOR: WHAT IS IT?
RIGOR LEVEL 1
No minimum math or reading level needed
May provide opportunity to earn industry certification

Similar to traditional high school elective course
Eighth grade reading and math levels preferred

Provide care for live animals through veterinary examination, health care, first aid, and habitat enrichment
Discover the science of animal anatomy, physiology, and genetics through dissections, models, and other hands-on activities
Jumpstart a career in veterinary, companion, large animal, or zoological sciences
AUTOMOTIVE AND AUTO BODY CAREERS (Rigor 2/ 1 or 2 year program/ grade 10+ / Professional skills/ Scholarships/ Professional Networking)
Jumpstart your future as an auto service, tire, lube, small engines, and auto body (wraps, paintless dent repair, ceramic coating, etc.) technician
Experience a real-life automotive shop environment utilizing the same tools and equipment as professionals
Explore MIG, TIG, and virtual welding for use with auto body and repair
AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY (Rigor 3/ 1 or 2 year program/College Credits/ Career Experiences/ ASE Certifications)
Maintain, repair, and fine-tune a wide range of vehicles alongside an ASE Master Technician in a full-service automotive center
Utilize the same advanced diagnostic and repair equipment as industry professionals to troubleshoot complex systems

Get outside and jumpstart a career in MN conservation; gather information about water, soils, forestry, and wildlife
Grow your own plants in our greenhouse and design, create, and install sustainable habitats and landscapes

TRANSITION CAREER ACADEMY (TCA) (Rigor 1/ Can be taken up to three trimesters)
- This program provides students with disabilities with the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop skill in the trade and industry (fall), business and marketing (winter), and health & human services (sprint). Completing the TCA program can lead to immediate high -demand employment, living-wage careers and further skill and knowledge programming such at the 916 Career & Tech rigor 2 or 3 programs or additional post-secondary education.
WELDING (Rigor 2/ Immediate Employment/ Scholarships/ Professional Skills)
Manipulate the power of fire and electricity to design and construct the metal products people use every day
Explore welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, stick, oxyacetylene, oxyfuel, and plasma cutting using live and virtual methods
Express yourself- join, cut, bend, and manipulate metal for industrial and creative applications
YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP/INTERNSHIP (Rigor 2/ Work Based Learning/ Professional Skills/ Scholarships/ Internships *must provide own transportation)
Earn high school credit while getting paid to build your work experiences and resume for future college and career success
Develop and showcase your talents and skills at various local businesses and industry settings
The workplace is your classroom where you will expand your potential, working independently and alongside industry professionals

North's will be held on January 9th during WIN- Sign up in Polar Place
We will limit this to the first 120 students that sign up
Tartan's will be held on January 15th during WIN- Sign up in the HUB
We will limit this to the first 200 that sign up
Where is 916 Career and Tech and how do I get there?
LOCATION: 916 Career and Tech is located on the East Campus of Century College, at 3300 Century Avenue North in White Bear Lake. Your home high school will provide you information about transportation and screening prior to coming to campus. For those students attending class on campus, staff will be available to greet students at doors E1 and E29 and will also provide assistance for finding classrooms. A tour will be offered to interested students. You can learn more about the tour when you attend the WIN session on January 9th or email bstanley@isd622.org Space is limited.
PROGRAM INFORMATION: North and Tartan are assigned time block 1 (8:05am - 9:50 a.m.)
TRANSPORTATION: Transportation is provided by most home districts. Students can provide their own transportation but if they need transportation they will take the 916 designated bus at their home middle school. The same bus will bring them back to both North and Tartan for the start of 3rd hour. The construction program does have off campus sites that students need to be aware of.
