CJH Parent Newsletter #2
August 23rd, 2024
Principal's Message
Our fire drill on Thursday afternoon was a success! Our students were caught off guard but leaped right into the correct evacuation protocols that they were taught by their teachers last week and again earlier this week. We are very proud of how well they know how to properly, quickly, and safely evacuate the building in case of a real emergency.
*Note* If your child/children choose to bring a cup with a straw to school, like a Stanley cup, or a cup with a sliding top, like a Yeti, please speak with them about leaving those cups inside of their lockers during class. The reason for this request is to help prevent the large number of spills that we are cleaning up every day due to some students not properly holding their cup and/or allowing the cup to spill a trail behind them as they walk up and down the hallways. Water bottles with twist tops, like a regular plastic water bottle, are preferred because those water bottles can be brought into the classroom with them.
Please do NOT forget! 😲
Please remind your child/children to bring their Chromebook(s) to school with them daily.
Students will be considered tardy if they arrive after 7:45 AM. First period begins promptly at 7:45 AM. If your child/children are more than 20 minutes late to any one class period, they will be considered absent for that period.
Being present and on time is a positive life-long habit. Tardiness and absences have a major impact on the learning process for both your child and other children in the class. This could include missing an explanation of a new concept, interrupting a class already in session, needing the teacher to re-explain directions, slowing down the rest of the class, etc.

Bennett's Minute
Being Resilient
Many times we want to prepare a perfect path for our children free from disappointments or obstacles. That works wonderfully until something happens over which we have no control. A better approach would be to prepare our children for the path. Give them tools to cope with disappointments. Teach them to be resilient when obstacles are present. To be resilient means to have the ability to withstand or recover quickly from difficult situations. One of the greatest skills we can teach children is resiliency.
The first lesson that I will teach in classroom guidance is what to do when someone is mean. A mean person usually has one of these goals: to see if he or she can upset you or make you angry, to be funny and make someone laugh, or to get back at you because he or she feels that you have wronged him or her. Students will learn how to handle each type of mean behavior. They will learn to be resilient when others are mean.
In the first classroom guidance session, students will also become familiar with School Links, an online resource to help them plan for future education and careers.
This school year is full of opportunities to navigate paths.
