Message from Principal Groves - Week of May 13, 2024
Dear Blacklick Families:
Happy Mother's Day! I hope you are enjoying the weekend with friends and family!
What an awesome day we had last Friday at our Strides for PRIDE event! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Strides for PRIDE planning committee, led by Karen Davidson, that organized this event. I also want to extend a huge thank you to our Silent Auction Team led by Holli Goare and Megan Rush and our Corporate Sponsor Team led by Erin Miller. Hours upon hours are put into the planning process that starts in January! We really appreciate all you do to make this day a success for our students! Also, thank you to all of the parents/guardians that volunteered your time on Friday at our event. We appreciate your time and energy!
Finally, THANK YOU to all of our families and corporate sponsors that made a donation to our Strides for PRIDE event! In total we collected $48,123.57! This is an AMAZING total! We are so grateful to have such a supportive school community!
In addition, thank you to Casey Chapman and her team that organized Staff Appreciation Week last week for our staff! Thank you to all parents/families that donated to this week! We loved all of the special treats! Your thoughtfulness and appreciation mean so much to us, and it truly made our week!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.
Respectfully,
Kristen Groves

Field Day at Blacklick: May 22, 2024 - Volunteers Needed!
Get Ready for PRIDE PICNIC (Field Day) 2024!!!
Hello Blacklick Families -
Get ready for Blacklick Elementary’s annual PRIDE PICNIC on Wednesday, May 22 (rain date Thursday, May 23) . This is a day filled with friendship and fun! This year’s theme is “All-Star Games”. The 15 activities will feature favorites from the past, as well as some new! Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be participating in the morning and Grades K, 1, and 2 will be participating in the afternoon. Everyone will need to bring a sack lunch and drink that day, because the cafeteria will be closed. Also, please wear your favorite team shirt and bring some extra clothes and a towel, since there are 5 water games this year!
We couldn’t make this day happen for the Blacklick students without your support - - - our dedicated families! We need your help in leading the students in the collaborative games. You can follow this link to the 2024 PRIDE PICNIC Sign Up Genius page to read brief game descriptions and sign up to volunteer!
If you have any questions, please contact me at bowerj@gjps.org. Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeff Bower,
Blacklick PE Teacher
Farewell from Related Arts! Grade 5 Updates!
Music Update
Wishing all of the Blacklick 5th Graders a wonderful experience in 6th grade music! I look forward to seeing who joins the band, choir, and/or orchestra! Please keep in touch, and stay musical!
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Wolfe
Library Update
I have loved watching the fifth graders grow into the individuals they are now, as evidenced by their Hero projects in the gym hallway. We’ve been preparing for middle school by talking about the library there and how to email effectively. I hope they continue to be responsible digital citizens as they get increased freedom online and, of course, I wish them a future of happy reading!
Art Update
It has been such a pleasure learning and growing in the art room with these 5th graders! We ended the year by focusing on the concept of legacy. Students have been working hard to design “Legacy” tiles that will get installed as a permanent and beautiful addition to our school. 5th Graders have truly left their mark on our hearts and minds at Blacklick!

May 29-30 Central Office Closed for Move to New Location
May 31 Central Office Opens at New Location
Blacklick PRIDE Partner PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization)
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in the library at 6:30 PM.
The Blacklick PRIDE Partner PTO has complied a list of the staff's favorite things. It is important to understand the teachers are not asking for gifts. We know that many parents might want to get their child's teacher a gift and this list is to help you select something the teacher would like. Please do not feel obligated to buy a gift for your child's teachers/staff members. A thoughtful note from you and/or your child at any time of the year is appreciated just as much or more as any gift.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Karen Davidson, PTO President, at ptoblacklick@gmail.com.
