St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 1 I 19 July 2024
Good afternoon everyone,
I have said it before, and I will say it again – this year seems to be flying by! Our students have come back refreshed and ready to learn, and it has been a wonderful start to Term 3. A huge welcome to our new families, with 9 new students starting across the classes! Please look out for them and help them to feel welcome.
There is lots to be excited about this term with our Year 6 ‘s making their Confirmation and our Community Mass in Week 4, our Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals, Open Night and parent teacher
interviews scheduled for later this term. Our teachers have already got classes straight into their learning and I am looking forward everything the term has to offer!
I would also like to thank our community for the support they gave our end of term school bake sale held for LifeLink. This was an outstanding success, raising over $1,100 to support this vital cause and provided a really fun and upbeat community building event. Thanks to all the parents who supported us with such yummy cakes, and to Tracy and the Leaders for planning the event. More info about it below!
As you would be aware, St Bernadette’s are committed to planning for and treating asthma cases with a high degree of professionalism and care, meaning that staff work with families to support each child and they are trained to deal with an emergency asthma situation.
In any given year there can be as many as 40,000 hospitalisations for asthma in Australia and nearly half (44%) of these, are for children aged 0-14 years old. An important statistic for school staff is that a large percentage of these asthma episodes occur during school hours.
While we will always do everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our students, it is also absolutely essential that parents ensure their child has a current Asthma Plan on file and that this, along with the necessary medications, puffers and spacers are HERE AT SCHOOL.
It can be a very difficult and even frightening experience for a child when faced with an asthma attack or flareup, however, as you would appreciate, it can also be a very stressful and confronting time for staff members, who are responsible for caring for the child’s health needs here at school. None of us want to be in a situation where a child is left vulnerable, so cooperation is key!
If you are a family who has a child with asthma or any kind of condition that could potentially be life-threatening, you are asked to please treat this matter with the time, attention and care it deserves. Thank you to those families who have provided us with all the necessary plans and equipment needed and also for educating their child about their own condition – this is very helpful, appreciated and potentially life-saving.
For those who have not replied to our emails, updated student details, paperwork or medication; can I please stress the importance of working with our Admin Team to have it sorted as quickly as possible.

I hope you and your family have had a great start to the term and I look forward to seeing you all next week!

Welcome to Bernie's!
Catholic Performing Arts opening mass
This week Mrs Poasa, Miss Flynn, Mrs Hilton and our Performing Arts Captains, Jaynah and Rose attended mass at St. Mary's Cathedral in Perth to celebrate our school's participation in the opening of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. To open the mass, Jaynah and Rose proudly carried the school banner representing St Bernadette’s. Following the mass, they enjoyed a morning tea with students and staff from other Catholic schools. We are excited to participate in the festival in August to showcase the talent and dedication of our students.
Merit Award Assembly - Friday 19 July
The following students will be receiving an Award at next week's assembly. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Term 2 Mission fundraising
The end of term school bake sale held for LifeLink was an outstanding success, raising over $1,100 to support this vital cause. LifeLink is dedicated to providing critical assistance and resources to individuals and families in Perth facing challenging conditions. The funds raised will help facilitate essential services, from medical treatments to emotional support, making a significant difference in the lives of those in need.
The event was marked by a delightful array of treats, all generously donated by students, parents, and teachers. The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm from the entire school community made this fundraiser truly special. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Mission Captains, Alicia and Pippa, and everyone who contributed, whether by setting up, packing away, baking, buying, or simply spreading the word. Your support and generosity have made a significant impact, showcasing the strength and unity of Bernie’s community. Thank you for helping LifeLink continue its important work.
School Disco Friday 16 August
We are so excited to bring you this year’s Intergalactic Disco! The school disco is a favourite event for our students and to see it continue we’ve had to adapt to some CEWA changes. The school disco is now a cashless event which means we’ve had to say goodbye to the canteen. We understand the students love coming to choose their snacks away from prying parent eyes! Moving forward you can pre-order snacks and drinks when you purchase your ticket through the Spriggy app under the Events tab. When you sign students in at the disco they will receive their snack order. They will be able to come claim their drink from their class parent helpers during the event.
Tickets and pre-orders open next week and close 3pm Friday 9th August. Door sales will still be available on the day of the disco for $8 eftpos only. No snacks and drinks will be available to purchase at the disco.
We have so much fun planned for the disco! We hope to see you there for an out of this world time!
