Principal's Message
Dear Angell Community,
Cudos to our staff and students for executing a smooth ALICE Drill last Tuesday as well as a Shelter in Place Drill that was part of the district ALICE Drill conducted at Burton Elementary School on Thursday. I hope you were able to read all the district wide messages about school safety week. If you have any questions about our processes/procedures, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Our PTA out did themselves with an incredible Trunk or Treat on Friday. The decorated vehicles were super creative and the whole event was fun for everyone. What a great way to kickoff Halloween week at Angell. As you consider costumes for your child please consider the following questions as it is important for us to be sensitive and aware of cultures, races, and religions.
Does your costume refer to a culture that is not your own?
Does your costume include religious or spiritual symbols?
Does the costume require you to change your skin color?
As you look ahead with our school calendar please make note of the non-attendance days on Monday, November 4th and 5th. Our staff will use this time to work on building and district-wide professional development goals. Students will return for a full day on Wednesday, November 6th and will not have another non-attendance day until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you on Monday!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Take care,
Vince Gigliotti
Angell Principal

Hearing Screening Announcement from OCHD
Please be advised that all local county health departments throughout the state of Michigan provide hearing screening services under Act No. 368, Public Acts of 1978, Part 93, Hearing and Vision. Michigan schools work collaboratively with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Local Health Departments (LHD) to allow Hearing Screening Technicians to perform screenings in all public, private, and charter schools as well as formal preschool programs. A Hearing Technician from the Oakland County Health Department will be at Angell on November 1, 6, 7, and 12 to screen all TK, K, 2nd and 4th graders. Please complete the Opt Out Hearing Screening Form linked below if you would prefer your child NOT have a hearing screening performed, or if your child has a digitally programmable shunt or implanted medical device. Parents of children with implanted medical devices who are interested in hearing screening should contact their physician for a referral to an audiologist.
Halloween Information
The Halloween Parade is scheduled for 9:00 am on Thursday, October 31st. The entire community is welcome to come and enjoy our lap around the outside of school as we show off our costumes and enjoy another opportunity to celebrate as a community. In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel the parade and do a small costume share within the school with students and staff. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to have everyone come inside. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility with this process.
We ask that students who choose to dress up (it is not mandatory) to come to school in costume. Please make sure the costume is easy for your child to get out of as most classes will take off the costumes after the parade so that students are able to access the learning for the day.
In an effort to ensure that all costumes are school appropriate please follow the following guidelines:
Halloween Costume Guidelines – Please help your child select a costume that is appropriate for the school setting. Students will not be permitted to wear costumes that display violence or blood and absolutely no weapons or masks that cover the entire face will be allowed. Students should wear their costume to school.
Classroom Halloween Parties – Our room parents and classroom teachers have worked collaboratively to plan Halloween parties. Also, a friendly reminder that all of our celebrations are food free, so please do not send in snacks or goodie bags. Although we appreciate the gesture, it is not consistent with our policy.
Our staff and room parents have planned plenty of fun activities that our students are sure to remember and enjoy. This is a great opportunity for our classrooms to build relationships in a fun way. Please remember that all party volunteers must be pre-planned and pre-approved. Class parties are not a drop-in event. We appreciate your cooperation!

BEF Golf Outing
Every dollar the BEF raises supports teacher innovation-grants, the free student enrichment program, student scholarships and the 8th grade college tour.
Guests will have the chance to support the BEF by playing a round of golf, being a spectator, playing golf-related games for prizes and sponsoring a game. Golfers, in teams of four, will have the chance to play 18 holes at X-Golf on a world-renowned course. Teams will play an alternate ball style game and enjoy hot dogs at the turn. The team with the lowest score will win the grand prize. Only 9 teams are left - reserve your team before they sell out. Teams can utilize mulligans and sabotages to help their scores.
Golfers can also enter the Longest Drive contest, Closest to the Pin contest and Putting Challenge. Winners take home big prizes.
Not a golfer? Come for a Friday night out!
Enjoy an evening out, courtesy of the BEF, as a spectator. For those who are not avid golfers, don't want to commit to playing 18, or have never swung a club, stop in and enjoy the party. Spectator tickets are $25/person and include appetizers, hot dogs and an opportunity to play in the individual golf competitions.
