A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
A couple weeks ago we finished up our winter assessments in the areas of math and reading. We have each of our learners complete FastBridge screeners in the fall, winter, and spring to measure the progress of each learner, ensure our instructional practices are effective, and to use the data to prompt changes in our approach or implement specific interventions when necessary. I am excited to say that the impact of our collective efforts have definitely been positive. Here are a few highlights from the data we collected:
- We saw a 12% increase in math scores from our 2nd - 5th graders from last spring to this winter
- We saw an18% increase in math scores from our K-1st graders from last spring to this winter
- We saw a 9% increase in reading scores from our 2nd - 5th graders from last spring to this winter
- We saw a 29% increase in reading scores from our K-1st graders from last spring to this winter
I am so proud of our learners and teachers! These are HUGE gains! They have been working extremely hard to learn and grow in these areas and it has really been paying off. Please keep encouraging your child to try their hardest at school and to extend their learning at home by reading each night and practicing their math facts. It truly is making a difference and there is no limit to what we can achieve if we keep working together!
Thank you for your partnership and support. We are excited to see you all at conferences this week!! Read, read, read...

PTP Requests Donations For Teacher Meals During Conferences
Hello Riverview Families-
Spring conference week is approaching fast, our teachers and staff at Riverview will be working extra long days. The PTP would like to work with parents to provide refreshments to go with teacher dinners during these late nights.
Please click the link below to review the requests and sign up for a donation you can bring. Please note, the best donation is something that is an easy 'grab and go' - something staff can quickly grab to snack between appointments.
Donations can be brought to the front office any time through Tuesday March 4.
Thank you for helping show our teachers how much we CARE

New Literacy Resource For K-5 Learners
Through this past year, our teachers have been learning about the Science of Reading. The Science of Reading is a large body of scientific research which guides how to teach reading. We are excited about the changes this will bring. We are adopting a curricular resource to support this work. We are happy to announce that we will be recommending Wit and Wisdom as our K-5 Knowledge Building Curricular Resource for Literacy.
During conferences on March 4th and 6th, we will have a display set up in each building with materials available to look at.
You may also find information at this website with a great introduction video in both English and Spanish. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please fill out this form here.
You are also invited to attend our Instructional Program Review (IPR) committee meeting on March 18th at 5:30pm at the Farmington High School Lecture Hall. We will have a presentation on Wit and Wisdom, answer questions and have materials available to view.
We are very excited about this new resource that will positively impact our learners!
Visit The Lost & Found During Conferences; Be Sure To Label Items In The Future
The lost & found continues to grow. Please plan to stop by the lost & found table during parent/teacher conferences to see if anything belongs to your family. After conferences, the items that have been there for several weeks will be moved to our "community closet" so others in need may be able to use the misplaced clothing.
In the future, it is very helpful if you label your child's items with their name or initials. This allows us to get any misplaced clothing or items back to their owner quickly.
Early Dismissal at 12:10 on Thursday, March 6 Due To Parent/Teacher Conferences
No School On Friday, March 7 Due To A Teacher Professional Development Day
School Guidelines for Keeping Your Child Home Due To Illness
Regular attendance is an integral part of your child’s education and school success. The following guidelines should help you decide about when and how long to keep your child home due to illness.
- When a child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, the child should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal (without needing medication to keep the temperature down).
- When a child has vomited or had diarrhea, the child should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
- When a child has an unexplained rash, please check with your family physician before sending the child to school.
- When your child is not running a fever, but is having excessive secretions, continual coughing or excessively tired it may also be good to keep him/her at home. Extra sleep, fluids, and possibly medication can be effective in resolving these symptoms and preventing a relapse.
- Building nurses will assess students and determine if your child needs to go home if they become ill/exhibit signs or symptoms of illness during the school day.
Please have an “emergency plan” for the care of your child should he/she need to go home from school due to illness. Students who are ill should be picked up as soon as possible to help prevent the spread of illness.
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to a healthy, productive time in school. Please contact Nurse Lisa Klemmenson if you have any questions.
You Are Invited To the Next Instructional Program Review Committee Meeting
The Instructional Program Review (IPR) committee will meet on Tuesday, March 18th at 5:30pm at Farmington High School in the Large Lecture Hall. (Please enter Door 16 on the lower level by the flag poles). We will be discussing our Federal Title Programming. If your child is part of the Title I programs that serve our elementary students needing additional reading instruction in the elementary, or if your child is part of our Title III programs for Multi-Lingual Learners K-12, please feel free to attend to learn more about these programs, ask questions and give additional input. Please contact Lisa Edwards, Director of Elementary Learning, if you are unable to attend but still wish to give input. You can reach her by email at ledwards@farmington.k12.mn.us or by phone, 651-463-5016.
Please Limit Candy, Gum, and Flavored Drinks at School
Students are increasingly bringing candy, flavored water, caffeinated drinks, and gum to school. These are not allowed for snack or throughout the day. It would be very helpful if you would please remind your child that they need to stay at home.

We Need Your Help! We Are In Need of More Paraprofessional Substitutes
Our paraprofessionals are a vital part of our team and they do so much every day for our students. Like everyone, they have to miss work from time to time due to illness, family matters, etc. When that happens, it leaves our learners with less support. And unfortunately, often times these absences go "unfilled" due to a shortage of capable and willing subs. That is why we are asking for people in our Riverview community to consider being a para sub. The pay is $15 per hour and you can work as much (or as little) as you want. Whether you sub one day or every day, each time you enter a classroom, you are responsible for the helping the most important resource we have in our school -- our children.
If you would like to sign up to sub as a teacher or paraprofessional for the Farmington Schools you will have to apply through Teachers on Call (TOC). Please email or call TOC directly at 1800-713-4439 or apply online at teachersoncall.com.
Keep On Reading Every Night at Home! It Makes a HUGE Difference!
