Message from the Principal
Happy New Year!
I hope you and your family had a safe and restful winter break—and perhaps even enjoyed the unexpected five snow days!
As we begin the second semester, it’s always surprising how quickly this time of year passes. With spring conferences, followed by spring break, and then the start of spring activities/sports just around the corner, our calendars will soon be filled with warm-weather activities!
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. We are looking forward to supporting our students as they continue to learn and grow. Let’s have a fantastic second half of the school year!
Mrs. Sonderegger

Farley Clubs
- The Farley Fit Club and Pickleball Club will NOT meet this quarter. The WRHS Volleyball and Football Clinics will be utilizing the gym for many of the days. Mr. Nash will send out the sign up for 4th quarter around parent-teacher conference time.
- The Farley Chess Club will start back up for the second semester on January 27th. There is still room for students in 4th-6th grade. They meet on Mondays from 4:00-5:00 in the library. You can sign up HERE!
- Mrs. Reynoso is starting a Spanish Club this semester. They meet every Monday and Thursday from 4:00-4:45. Currently, the club is full with a waiting list.
Morning Arrival and Breakfast
Breakfast is served until 8:40 each day. Students arriving on a late bus will have the option of picking up a quick breakfast item, but students being dropped off by a car need to enter the cafeteria before 8:40 in order to get breakfast.
The car drop off line runs from 8:25-8:40. Farley staff members are needed in classrooms at 8:40, so any students dropped off after 8:40 will need to be dropped off at the front doors. There will not be staff supervision during arrival after 8:40.
Thank you for helping your child have a great start to the day!
Attendance
DID YOU KNOW?
- Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves.
Important Attendance Definitions:
Tardy - arriving after 8:45 am
Early pick up - leaving before 3:30 pm
Unexcused Absences - absent without reasonable justification
According to Kansas law (K.S.A. 72-1113) a student is truant if they have missed the following without legitimate excuse:
Three (3) consecutive days
Five (5) unexcused absences in a semester
Seven (7) unexcused absences in a school year
If a student has excessive excused absences (more than 10), a doctor’s note will be required for it to be excused. Another option is that you can bring your child to the school clinic and the school nurse can determine if your child should stay home.
