District Update - December 23
Superintendent's Message
Midview Families and Community,
These few weeks in December have flown by, and despite the natural anticipation that comes with the holiday season and winter break, our students have demonstrated great focus and determination in both their academics and extracurricular pursuits. I am incredibly proud of their hard work and equally grateful to our staff for creating an environment that nurtures learning, growth, and excitement every day.
As we approach the end of the semester and the start of a new year, it’s a natural time for reflection. I am continually inspired by the collaboration, energy, and sense of community we’ve built here at Midview Local Schools. It’s clear that Middie Pride is alive and well, and I can’t wait to see all the ways we’ll continue to grow and find success together in 2025.
While the calendar year will soon change, one thing that will always remain constant is our dedication to ensuring every student receives an exceptional educational experience. That shared commitment is at the heart of everything we do and will continue to guide us as we move forward.
Thank you for your continued trust and support. I hope this holiday season brings you happiness, relaxation, and plenty of time with those who matter most. Have a safe Winter Break, Middies!
Warm regards,
Dr. Frank Major, Superintendent

MHS Hosts First Unified Sports Tournament
Unified Sports, a program created by the Special Olympics, pairs athletes with intellectual disabilities (Special Olympians) alongside peers without disabilities who are not currently in-season athletes. With teamwork and inclusivity at the forefront, Unified Sports programs foster leadership, build self-confidence, and create meaningful connections among students.
When asked what he enjoys most about Unified Sports, junior Jacob Koney said, “I just like it because I can get to shoot the basketball and have the confidence I need to shoot the hoops.”
He also shared the best part of the day: "The whole crowd was being so loud. I was excited when they were going crazy and going nuts.” Jacob added that he looks forward to continuing to win with his team in the future. Read the full story here!
Gifted Identification Now Open
Students attending Midview Local School District have the opportunity to be recommended for gifted screening. Students may be identified as gifted in the area of superior cognitive ability, academic ability, creativity, and/or visual performing arts.
If you feel that your child may meet the criteria as established by the State Department of Education and the Midview Local School District, please complete the following questionnaire no later than Friday, January 17, 2025.
Please understand at this time a child may be identified in an area as gifted, but service is not yet mandated, or required, by the State of Ohio. You may contact your building principal for further information regarding Midview Board of Education Policy.
January is National Board of Education Recognition Month
Here at Midview Local School District, we are fortunate to have an incredibly supportive Board of Education who always place students first when making decisions. We look forward to sharing the thoughtful and creative ways our students, staff and administration will celebrate our school board members next month!

Name a Street on the Midview Local Schools Campus!
The Midview Compass Committee, comprised of parents, community members, and school personnel, works together to provide a variety of opportunities for our students. This year, to support their fundraising efforts, they are raffling off the naming rights for “Middie Main Street,” the street that runs in front of the Midview Middle School. Tickets will be available for purchase now through February 15, and the winner will be announced at the Varsity Boys Basketball game against North Olmsted on February 15 (you do not need not to be present to win).
Each ticket will grant the purchaser one entry into the raffle for the naming rights, which will be valid for one full year. After the winner selects a street name and it is approved for us, it will be displayed on a large 35”x 9” sign at the intersection on campus for all to see. Tickets are $5 for a single entry, or $20 for 5 entries. Purchase tickets here.
Middies in Action
Earlier this month, North Elementary students enjoyed a visit from the one and only Jim “Basketball” Jones as a PBIS reward! Known for his basketball skills and positive messages, Jim left a lasting impression on students and staff alike. Jim shared the importance of being a good listener, showing respect, using good manners, accepting mistakes as part of learning, and thinking critically to solve problems.
Mrs. Conway's fifth grade students researched a country in the Western Hemisphere as their social studies project. They gathered information on key topics such as popular foods, landforms, holidays, weather, and famous cities. Throughout the project, students developed important research, including how to create detailed Google Slides and link their sources properly. After completing their slides, each student presented their findings to a small group, allowing them to not only share what they learned about their own country but also discover interesting facts about other students' countries.
Middle School PLTW Automation & Robotics students spent time creating drag race cars! They worked in groups to design, build, and program a robotic car that would race down the hallway for 19 feet in the fastest time. There were many creative designs! This semester's fastest time was 3.09 seconds.
Mrs. Manning’s second grade performed The Gingerbread Man for the kindergarten classes. They practiced using speaking voices and fluency with expression. They also spent time comparing different versions of the story, analyzing the similarities and differences in the problems and solutions presented in each. Additionally, the students worked together to create a plan to catch the gingerbread man. They sequenced the steps of the plan, then drew a diagram using headings, labels and illustrations.
West Elementary students recently took on the challenge to earn 15,000 Middie tickets for modeling positive behaviors in just two weeks. Not only did they reach their goal – they zoomed past it, collecting an incredible 24,333 tickets! As a reward for their hard work, West hosted a special showing of "The Polar Express." Students enjoyed the film while cozying up with hot chocolate and cookies.
Thank you to Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Strongsville for keeping our staff caffeinated and appreciated as we rounded out the last few days before Winter Break!
Earlier this month, over 300 first and second graders wrote letters to Santa! Thanks to the hard work of our Midview High School Link Crew and National Honor Society students, "Santa" was able to personally reply to each letter! These dedicated high schoolers spent over 98 hours making sure every North Elementary student received a thoughtful response on Friday.
On Friday morning, some holiday characters from central office made a special visit to our elementary schools, spreading some final holiday cheer and handing out candy canes to students!
