Bus registration for 2024-2025 school year
Dear Monomoy families,
It is time to complete the transportation form in the Aspen family portal to let us know whether or not your student will be riding the bus for the 2024-2025 school year. This information will be used to create efficient and accurate routes and stops.
The form will ask:
- Please check ONE of these two boxes below regarding bus routes:
- Check this box if you plan to ride on a bus regularly
- Check this box if you DO NOT wish to be on a bus route
- Please verify your current street address or provide an updated address.
Click here to log into your family Aspen account, and select 'Start a new Bus Verification.'
Submitting this information now will help us make sure we have the right number of buses, on the right routes, with the right stops! There is no need to sign up for the bus just in case, if you don’t think you’ll need it. If circumstances change, your student can always be added later.
Please submit your responses as soon as possible, and no later than June 1.
If you have any questions, please contact Monomoy Transportation Coordinator Faith Rushnak at frushnak@monomoy.edu or (617) 848 0568.

Monomoy High School Teacher John Dickson Earns National Recognition
John Dickson, a history and social studies teacher at Monomoy Regional High School in Harwich, has been awarded an American Lawyers Alliance Teacher of the Year Award for 2024.
The American Lawyers Alliance awards honor United States public and private high school teachers who have made significant contributions in the area of law-related education. Selection is based on how the teacher: furthered the understanding of the role of the courts, law enforcement agencies, and the legal profession; helped students recognize their responsibilities as well as their rights; encouraged effective law-related education programs in their schools and communities; and increased communication among students, educators, and those involved professionally in the legal system.
In announcing the award, the ALA wrote, “Mr. Dickson’s background as a teacher well qualifies him for this award. At Monomoy Regional High School, he teaches Civics and AP U.S. Government. The Civics course is centered on the Constitution, law making, and public policy. It has always been a goal of his for the students to take a stand on whether they would have supported ratification. This lesson takes this goal one step further by having them act out the process, as well as writing about it. The project emphasizes the importance of Massachusetts in the ratification process, and just how contentious that convention was.”
“Mr. Dickson’s recognition as the American Lawyers Alliance Teacher of the Year is a testament to his commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of civic responsibilities and our students’ ability to have an impact,” said Lindsey Parker, Monomoy’s Humanities Curriculum Director for grades 5-12. He has a passion for educating, inspiring, and empowering our future leaders.”
As one of his students said, ‘Upon entering Mr. Dickson’s civics class, it was clear that he was a teacher unlike most. The very first thing we did was make our own class constitution, with self-created rules signed by every student, teaching us the very core of democracy and our role in it. Civic-mindedness, political awareness, current events, and governmental structure are some of the teachings standard to Mr. Dickson’s classes.’
“This award exemplifies Mr. Dickson’s dedication to developing the next generation of informed and empowered citizens through dynamic and transformative civics education,” said Monomoy High Principal Jennifer Police.
Dickson will be honored at the Annual Meeting of the American Lawyers Alliance at the University Club of Chicago on Friday, August 2, 2024.
MRHS Spanish Club celebrated the Spanish Language in CES and HES!
The Spanish Club of MRHS conducted cultural visits to CES and HES with the aim of celebrating the International Day of the Spanish Language and sharing Hispanic culture with students from our Elementary Schools.
The students presented a show for 3rd and 4th graders about the movie "ENCANTO," which is based on the literary genre of Magical Realism, with its greatest exponent being the Colombian Gabriel García Marquez. Spanish Language Day honors Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the author of Don Quixote de la Mancha, who passed away on April 23, 1616. Interestingly, William Shakespeare also died on April 23, 1616. It's curious how the most representative authors of English and Spanish literature died on the same date!
Profe Berbeo was pleasantly impressed by the level of participation and interest in the Spanish language from the students at both schools. CES students performed a Spanish song too! Wow, what wonderful energy! Thanks to Principals Mrs. Cutone and Mrs. Kelly, to the music teacher Mr. Toppa, and to all the teachers and students who welcomed and accompanied the visit.
And a special thanks to the Spanish Club students that were part of the visit, for their dedication, good vibes, and commitment: Génesis Gómez, Emanuelly Mourao, Emily Valdovinos, Emely Rivas, Briana Butler, and Idelis Rodríguez. Also, a big shoutout to our honorary club member, Caroline Cronin, a bilingual 3rd-grade student at HES, who helped with simultaneous translation (Spanish-English) between the "Madrigal Family" and the audience during the show!
Spanish, a vibrant and fascinating language, transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, spoken in over 20 countries around the world. With more than 580 million native speakers and a growing community of learners, Spanish stands as one of the most influential and enriching languages on the planet. Promoting Spanish is promoting connection among people, understanding between cultures, and celebrating our diversity as a global community.

AP Exams Information
WELCOME TO AP EXAM SEASON!
Here are a few important tips, reminders, and expectations for your exam (s)
Every student who is registered to test is EXPECTED to TEST. Our school is charged $40 per exam if a student decides to “no show” on exam day. Taking the culminating exam is the expectation when a student registers for an AP course.
Exams differ in length but generally will be around three hours (exception for students who have been pre-approved for accommodations)
It is important to eat before your exam and it is logical to “Brown Bag” it on exam day .
AM Exams begin at 8:45. Students report to the exam room for check-in at 8:30.
PM Exams will begin at 12:00pm. Students report to the exam room for check-in at 11:45. Students can eat lunch from 11:45-12 as we check them in. This is why bringing lunch really helps.
Students who are late to the testing room will not be permitted to take their exam. Students must stay in the testing room until the end of the timed exam.
Be sure NOT to schedule any “Jawsomes” on your exam days. Teachers will be asked not to schedule you into “Jawsome”.
There should not be a conflict with athletic events. In the event that you have a match/game on a PM exam day, arrange transportation on your own to the match/game and email kguilmette@monomoy.edu and communicate this with your coach.
Students ARE EXPECTED to attend the full day of school on exam day
