From the Principal's Desk
I can't believe we are in the final two weeks of November. The trimester ends on the 15th and Parent Teacher Conferences are November 19-20th. Report cards will go home on November 22nd as we head out for our fall break. I am so proud of our students for all the growth they have had so far this year. I know teachers are excited to share updates with you all! Please make sure to sign up for a conference time with your teachers.
In addition to report cards, truancy notices will be mailed to families at the close of the trimester. Any student who has been absent for 6 days or more, has now missed 10+% of the school year. I can say as a parent, when my son started Kindergarten, I didn’t realize how quickly those days can add up! If you receive a letter, take note to improve attendance moving forward. It is not a "gotcha" but an opportunity for us to be aware and work together to support our students to be in school and continue to grow. Please reach out to me if you receive a letter and have any questions or concerns. We are here to help!
See below for a few more important updates!
Have a wonderful weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan
Parent Teacher Conferences- Salt Creek Parent teacher conferences are Tuesday, November 19 and Wednesday, November 20. Teachers have sent out sign ups through email but if you can also sign up HERE by selecting your child's teacher link.
Extra Clothes - We have had a number of students need a change of clothes at school for a variety of reasons over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, many do not have spare clothes at school. Please send some spare clothes that can be kept at school with your child. We are low on donated spares and will unfortunately need to call parents to bring a change of clothes if necessary. Thank you for your support!
Veteran's Day - Veteran's day is right around the corner on Monday November 11th. This is a regular school day for our district. We love to highlight this day in a meaningful way for our students. Throughout the day, they will learn the history of Veteran's Day, create cards for Vets and we have a guest speaker/Veteran coming to share about the different branches of the military.
Author Visit - author/illustrator Matthew Cordell will be visiting Salt Creek on Wednesday, November 13th. Mr. Cordell will talk with students about his career as an author/illustrator and discuss his books. This visit will take place at 9:15am. PM preschool students are invited to attend with a parent as well! We invite you to join us between 9-9:15am for the presentation, PM preschool will still be in session in the afternoon.

HEALTH OFFICE NEWS
There has been an increase in Pertussis (also known as whooping cough) nationally and locally. Pertussis is a very serious respiratory infection. Symptoms occur in three stages and typically appear 4 to 21 days after exposure. Stage 1: cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, mild fever, and cough) Stage 2: uncontrolled coughing followed by a whooping noise when breathing in air. This stage may last several weeks. Stage 3: Cough slowly disappears over several weeks. Pertussis requires antibiotic treatment. Please contact your healthcare provider should you or your child experience any of these symptoms. The best prevention is vaccination. Cases of Pertussis should be reported to your school's health office. Please see links below for more information.

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
