Decatur Community,
This past week was another opportunity be a part of Homecoming Week at DCHS. It did not disappoint. School spirit days, float building, my first DCHS bonfire, and great weather made for another year of unique memories that won't soon be forgotten.
What stands out to me about the Homecoming experience in Oberlin is the magnitude of involvement by the entire community. Homecoming is not just a DCHS activity, it is a community experience that includes almost everyone.
SHOUTOUTS
Shoutout to the football team on their huge Homecoming win. It was a big victory that ended early when Talan Sauvage "Mossed" a Stockton defender to ensure that the students would all get to their Homecoming Dance on time. It was easily the best the boys had looked this season, and it couldn't had come at a better time.
Shoutout to a great bunch of volleyball seniors and their parents. Senior nights are tough, the last home game with your team doing something you have loved your whole life. This year, we saw 8 senior girls play their last home game. It's the most senior girls involved in a senior night that I have ever seen in any sport. This is a special group of young ladies that have played together for many years. Thanks to you and your parents. We are done on our home court, but let's go show them that we saved the best for last.
Shoutout to the junior high football team as well. The boys stayed undefeated with a big win over Trego, a battle of two unbeatens. It's rare to see a team go undefeated in a season, and the Red Devils have that opportunity for second straight season this Thursday as they finish their season at home against Dighton. I have said it before. There is a bright future in store for this squad.
Shoutout to Mr. Brad Persinger and his band. Last Friday night, Mr. Persinger and the band were back in action for Friday night football. On a beautiful, crisp, fall night, the band and their nostalgic tunes provided a perfect addition to the atmosphere. Glad to have him back in full swing.
Shoutout to Queen Ana Freeman and King Reid Fort. I'm not gonna lie, it may go to Reid's head. The two were chosen by the student body, and I am happy for them. They are both great kids and represent the school well.
Shoutout to to ELA teacher, Ms. Libby Fort. Congratulations on raising a King!
Shoutout to all of the HS students for there tremendous participation in Homecoming. On Thursday night, the students showed great participation in both the bonfire and the float building competition. They wanted to stay later than the 9:00 deadline. On Friday, their cartoons by decade competition truly amped up with Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, and Charlie Brown as the chosen themes. The seniors and Charlie Brown took home the win.
Shoutout to the community for showing up. There were several community members that came out to watch the bonfire, more that showed up for the parade, more again that showed up for our Homecoming Assembly, and even more that showed up for the game Friday night. It makes the whole week more enjoyable when everyone shows up.
Shoutout to the local police, fire department, and the Booster Club. The police department provided escorts for both parades. The fire department was on site for the Bonfire Event. The Booster Club provided the annual hot dogs for the parade. There were so many people involved to make things go just right.
Shoutout to the teachers. Homecoming is definitely a tradition that piles up memories for staff and students. Having said that, it brings its fair share of disruption to the daily routine of school. The teachers were tremendous with their support and patience. Many were there for the marches, and most were there for the float building Thursday night.
Shoutout to all of those that allowed for us to borrow their cars, trucks, and trailers for the parade.
Shoutout to the Ten-Year King and Queen. Kennedy Fortin and Jalyn Shaw both returned to the same stage where they were crowned 10 years prior and shared their memories and experiences. It's great for our students to hear from these two and see where they are today. It's also impressive that each were able to be in attendance for the ceremony.
Shoutout to Mrs. Lisa Johnson, Ms. Teresa Saul, and Mrs. Jillian Springer for sponsoring the Homecoming Dance. A crazy week culminates in the Homecoming Dance, and these three were ready for the long haul.
Shoutout to Mrs. Jillian Springer. Mrs. Springer coordinated all of the Homecoming festivities this year. There was a lot of pressure on her, and she was up to the task. Mrs. Springer was involved from beginning to end, communicating with students, staff, and community members. She was at everything. You could tell that she was having a lot of fun with the process, but I am hoping that she was able to relax a bit this weekend.
Shoutout to XC runners Jessiah McDougal, Kira Burmaster, and Trevor Witt. Jessiah took 6th place at the HS League Meet this past week. Kira took 4th and Trevor took 2nd in JH League. Another great season for the XC runners.
Shoutout to Computer teacher Ms. Teresa Saul and her Computer Applications students. Mrs. Saul has been such a positive addition to our staff, and she has provided leadership and guidance for our students. This past week, staff members were greeted by her 8th hour Computer Applications class with a gift bag. Each were a bit unique to the staff member. It was a touching gesture from both an adult teaching positive life lessons and students that embraced the concept.

Red Devil Ready
That's going to do it for this week. It was another successful Homecoming week, a week that upheld longstanding DCHS traditions. It's very fitting that after such a busy week, students will get one more day of rest.
As students rest tomorrow, the teachers will be getting trained and certified, as tomorrow, teachers and some staff will all be getting certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. I will share more about that next week.
Until next week,
Jeremy Holloway
