Pike Central High School
April
Message from Principal Gaffney
Dear Charger Community,
As the spring season progresses, bringing new growth after the April showers, the 2024-2025 academic year draws to a close, leaving behind a wealth of lasting memories. Our graduating seniors eagerly anticipate, with perhaps a touch of apprehension, the commencement of the next chapter in their lives. It is our sincere hope that they will carry forward an unwavering commitment to personal growth and the pursuit of their best selves. Our guiding theme for the year, "Because I said I would," has resonated throughout our school community, and we trust that our graduates will embody this principle in their future endeavors.
As the academic year approaches its conclusion, our students continue to excel both in their studies and in extracurricular pursuits. We extend our sincere gratitude for the ongoing support from our community.
🎉 BECAUSE I SAID I WOULD! 🏆

First Founders Pitch Competition 2025
We had 2 groups from Pike Central advance to the finals, and one of our groups took 2nd place!
For the past several months, our program director Brian K. Southern went to North Knox, South Knox, Lincoln, Rivet, and Pike Central High Schools to teach these young adults the value of starting their own business. He presented them with a question: What problem do you see in your community? More than 150 students answered this question by creating businesses to solve these problems.
Through preliminaries, semifinals, and finals, 52 teams took 12 weeks to develop their pitch and present in front of their community, peers, and various judges. The result? A promise of a bright future for Knox and surrounding counties led by these young adults.
Our three winning teams included:
First Place — Emily Bible, Covered with Care (South Knox)
Second Place — Andrew Bieker & Camden Case, The Corn Cutter (Pike)
Third Place — Kourtney Chesser, Ben Phillips & Kayelynn Stroud, Crossroads Companion Care (South Knox)
Each of these 52 teams will be offered free business advising and resources through The Pantheon to work towards launching their businesses.
The Pantheon plans to release detailed articles about each team that participated in the coming weeks.
Thank you to our judges, community members, and Pantheon team for making this event happen!
Macbeth Rap Battle
Mrs. Vinnedge's classes that had been studying Macbeth had their annual Macbeth Rap Battle. Each group was given a theme from Macbeth and were given the challenge to create a rap that explained the theme in relation to the play and how it affected the outcome. As you can tell by the pictures, the students had a lot of fun with this.
PCHS Robotics Team
The PCHS Robotics team competed in their last competition this past weekend at Washington. Team had a successful weekend and season designing, building and coding the robot. Lots of improvements were made this year and looking forward to the next season! If interested in joining the team next year, please let someone in the guidance department or the front office know.
Government and Economics
The Friday before Spring Break, Representative Lindauer and Senator Schmitt came to speak to a group of students from Mr. Igel's Government and Economics classes. The students wrote letters to their local state legislators about the possible cuts to public education due to SB 1 property tax reform bill. They gave a short presentation on the workings of state government, addressed the student's concerns from their letters and then had a question and answer time. PCHS would like to thank Representative Lindauer and Senator Schmitt for taking time to meet with these students.
Human Service Class
Ms. Geiling's Human Service class had learned about the world's recycling and waste concerns during the first semester, which led to the desire to implement a worm farming, or vermiculture, program that goes along with our Farm-to-School program with our 12 raised beds. Vermiculture is the process of raising worms to break down organic waste into nutrient-rich compost called worm castings. This eco-friendly practice helps reduce food waste while producing a natural fertilizer for gardens.
The Culinary classes use fruits and vegetables on a regular basis and will team up with the school's kitchen to collect produce scraps for composting, along with recycling the school's paper instead of sending it to the landfill. The class has set up worm bins containing 5 lbs each of red wigglers. Scrap, paper, and cardboard will be pre-composted and then fed to the worms regularly. We are excited about what the future brings for us!
First Founders Pitch Competition
Congratulations to the three teams from PCHS who have qualified to the First Founders Pitch Competition at The Pantheon in Vincennes. 7 PCHS teams from the Engineering and Precision Machining classes competed against each other to see who would advance. It was a great learning experience for all of the groups. Check out the Press Release link for more information.
