Hydroponics definition
The process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients but without soil.
Types of systems
Water culture- An air pump supplies air to the air stone that bubbles the nutrient solution and supplies oxygen to the roots of the plants.
Wick system- The nutrient solution is drawn into the growing medium from the reservoir with a wick.
Ebb & flow - The Ebb and Flow system works by temporarily flooding the grow tray with nutrient solution and then draining the solution back into the reservoir.
Advantages
- Good for people that live in condos and apartments.
- No weeds involved
- No hard labor
Disadvantages
- Needs a lot of attention
- Building a system is very expensive
- If disease appears it affects every one of the other plants around them
