Kott's Korner
As the year is winding down, there are no words to express how I feel about the wonderful students, families, teachers and staff here at Davisburg Elementary! I am grateful for all of the ways we partner to do what is best for our kids. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to serve as the leader of this amazing place!
As you play and enjoy the summer, don’t forget to keep your child reading. Be sure to check out the Summer offerings at the Springfield Township Library and Holly Library. The best way to become a stronger reader is by reading! There are also a lot of little ways to add other content area learning into your everyday life. Some of the best are playing board games, getting outside to enjoy nature or nearby attractions. Most of all, I hope you enjoy some family time and have fun!
Thank you for another great year!
Truly,
Denise Kott

Leader in Me & Core Compentencies
At Davisburg, we use the Zones of Regulation to help students to think and talk about how they are feeling. The Zones of Regulation sorts emotions into four different colored zones: blue, green, yellow and red. Once a student can identify the zone, they can often identify how their brain and body are feeling. Through specific strategies, the skill of self regulation can be used to ensure students are ready to learn.
At home, the Green Zone could mean that your child is ready to engage with the family or join an activity. One idea to try is to create a scheduled time for a Zones of Regulation “check-in.” This could be a time of the day that you work together as a family to talk about what zone you are in, why, and/or how you could move into the green zone. You can also do a check-in and use strategies when you notice different emotions in your child or they are expressing non-green emotions.
Another strategy to implement at home, is to determine where the “cozy” or “break area” is that your child can use. Consider putting a few calming activities, stuffed animals or fidgets in the area. Davisburg students should know how to use an area for this purpose. If you need more ideas, please contact us.
