When can cyberbullying rise to the level of a crime?
21-5415. Criminal threat; aggravated criminal threat. (a) A criminal threat is any threat to:
(1) Commit violence communicated with intent to place another in fear, or to cause the evacuation, lock down or disruption in regular, ongoing activities of any building, place of assembly or facility of transportation, or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such fear or evacuation, lock down or disruption in regular, ongoing activities;
How Parents Can Stop Cyberbullying
1. Keep the computer in a common area of the home. Do not allow it in your children's bedrooms. Monitor their online usage.
2. Learn how various social networking apps and sites work. Become familiar with Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter. Ask your children if they will show you their profile pages. Ask them about chatting on applications like Discord, Omegle, TikTok, and Reddit. Do not allow children to chat with people they do not know.
3. Talk regularly and specifically with your children, about online issues. Let them know they can come to you for help if anything is inappropriate, upsetting, or dangerous.
4. Tell your children not to respond to any cyberbullying threats or comments online. Screen shot and save the messages if you need them for proof, block the user, report it to the site, and leave the chat.
