UPCOMING EVENTS
CLUB Lottery Application 2024-2025
Greetings Parents/Guardians! Please take a moment and sign up for a club for your scholar!!! Clubs will start on October 14, 2024. Seats are limited, so you may sign your scholar up for ONLY ONE club. Please only sign up ONE time per scholar. Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25PM-2:55 p.m. school dismissal.
Sign-ups will close on Friday, September 27, 2024, so sign up as soon as possible.
Sign-up does not guarantee a spot in the club—this is a lottery. The club sponsor will notify students by Monday, October 7, 2024, if they have been selected for the club.

Nurse Updates
A message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost 100%, continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Kindergarten
Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Families,
We are getting off to a great start. Our scholars are learning the routines and procedures and making memories in kindergarten.
ELA: We are learning to Identify and match the common sounds that letters represent, along with Identify and read common high-frequency words by sight. We will encourage students to sound and stretch words to hear sounds and write down the sounds students hear.
Social Studies: We are learning about working together, cooperating with each other, and identifying ways that we can share with one another.
Math: We are working on saying the numbers in standard order, and when counting objects comparing each name with only one object.
Science: We are continuing learning about forces of push and pull. We will observe and explain how objects move.
Friendly reminder: Please practice with your scholar their 6 digit lunch code daily.
We will start MAP testing next week. Please make sure your scholar gets enough rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

First Grade
Fascinating First Grade News!
Hispanic Heritage month begins September 15 - October 15. Each classroom teacher has a country their students will study over this month.
MAP Testing begins next week. Please make sure your scholar is well rested.
On 9/26 first grade will be able to participate in Apple Day! Apple Day is a stem based day where students are able to test and experiment with various kinds of apples.
A permission slip to participate will be sent out early next week.

Second Grade
Spectacular Second Grade News!
The second grade team would like to say "thank you" to all of you who joined us for our "Back to School Night." It was a success, and your participation made it even more special. If you were unable to attend, please reach out to your scholar's teacher to get the information that was shared.
Next week, we will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The big question for the unit is “How do different places affect us?" Throughout the week, we will focus on informational text. We will complete the weekly question, "How does living in a community help people?" Our spelling pattern is consonant blends. In Math, we will continue working on Topic 1. This topic covers fluently adding within 20. In Science, we will start lesson 2, Properties of Matter. In Social Studies, we will continue Chapter 1: Families Today and in the Past. In Health, we will discuss learning from diversity.
As we settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our school motto with your scholar. Respect Others, Opt to Be Scholarly, Act Responsibly, and React with Kindness.

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Reading, students will explore the components of writing a personal narrative. They will review skill VCCV pattern and Inflected Ending -s, -es, and -ies from the following week.
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 1: Lesson 3 The Earth's Resources.
In Math, we are continuing to learn and practice multiplication facts. Once again, practice and repetition is going to help your scholars out the most here! Flash cards and other games are a great way to solidify their learning.
In Science, we are learning about using patterns in motion to predict future movement.
****Students will be MAP Testing this week for both Reading and Math. Please make sure that students are getting proper rest and arriving to school on time.*****

Thank you to those who came out to Back to School Night. We appreciate you taking the time out to join us to learn about what to expect on your scholar's 4th grade journey. Please ensure your scholar is on time so that he or she will have adequate amount of time to complete the assessment. Next week in Reading, students will analyze text structure in a magazine article. In Social Studies, students will know that people adapt to and change the environment to meet their needs. In Math, students will use place value and the standard algorithm to subtract whole numbers. MAP Assessment
MAP testing will begin September 17, 2024. Make sure you have a good night's sleep before you test. Arrive early and on time.
Subject Content:
RELA
Students will delve into historical fiction in the story of "Pedro's Journal." They will identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction. The reading skills will consist of understanding point of view and using text evidence to support logic and reasoning.
Word Study: Vowel Teams
Vocabulary: tide, course, leagues, fathoms, jaunts
Social Studies
In 5th grade we are learning and exploring the past, and all of its fabulous lessons. We've conquered traveling, farming, catching, and cooking our own food and we're moving on to the next Chapter which is Settling the Colonies in North America. In the chapter, we will discuss the Spanish Colonies in the Americas, The English Colonies in Virginia, Pilgrims and Puritans in New England, and The French and Dutch in North America. We're looking forward to gaining even more knowledge about the things, people, and places that make our country what it is and how to continue making it better. We've got this Tigers!!!
Math
In Math this week , we will use models and strategies to add and subtract decimals.
Science
In Science, students will identify materials based on their physical properties.

Superior Specials News!
Greetings, this week kindergarten is working on lines, shapes, and color. First grade is working on line, repetition, and pattern. Third grade is doing a creature mashup or as one student put it, mutants. Third grade is working on their patterned landscapes, fourth grade will be designing monikers using geometric shapes and color. And, fifth grade will be creating imagery from random shapes.

This week, we are finishing up our talent show for 3rd-5th graders! Kindergarten is learning about creating basic rhythms using TiTi&Ta! And 1st-2nd graders learned about making melodies with Do-Re-Mi!

2-5: Scholars have been practicing Home Row keys as well as letters e, i, r and u.

LEGO
We are moving forward in our beginning lessons about Lego. We have learned the names of some lego pieces, what they can do and how they can be used creatively. We also took a quick assessment to see what we learned about the lego pieces. We also began lego education lessons.

STEM II
Greetings,
This week in STEM II we have continued with our STEM Survival Camp and learning the Engineering Design Process. Your scholar should be able to tell you about the steps to the Engineering Design process and show you the hand motions that we have that go along with it. Each grade level has a challenge that we will be completing in class.
Kinder will be completing the Cross the river challenge.
1st Grade will be completing a Fishing Pole challenge.
2nd Grade will be completing a Protect the Food challenge.
3rd Grade will be completing a Game from the Land challenge is
4th Grade will be completing a hiking backpack challenge.
5th Grade will be completing the Build a Shelter challenge. I’m asking for donations of supplies from each grade level. I will post a Signup Genius link in your scholar’s Class Dojo. Thank you all again for your support.

Themes and Communication: The School Counseling Program theme of the year is CMITNES - Kindness Tames Bulldozers. We believe that fostering kindness and empathy can transform our school community. To keep informed and engaged, keep a lookout for the newsletter featuring the topic of each lesson, upcoming events, and tips for supporting your child’s growth at home.
Counselor’s Corner: There will be some exciting changes to the Counselor’s Corner, making it more interactive and resource-rich for both students and parents. Stay tuned for updates on these new features.
Referrals and Access: Teachers and parents will continue to have access to submit referrals through the Counselor’s Corner.
Parent Workshops: We will be hosting parent workshops/presentations at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to address various topics related to your child’s development and well-being. These sessions will offer valuable insights and practical strategies for supporting your child.
Classroom Lessons: I will be conducting lessons each month, ensuring that every student receives consistent and comprehensive guidance throughout the year.
