Just a quick reminder that we will have the Lost & Found rack out again on Monday, October 14 and again during parent conferences on October 15. Please make a point of stopping by and helping us get items returned to their correct owners.
As the weather changes, especially with cool mornings and warm afternoons, our Lost and Found collection grows. Please remind your child to check their cubby, the lost and found in the cafeteria, or the playground outsides, any time they don't bring a jacket, coat or sweatshirt home with them.
National School Lunch Week - October 14-18
This year's theme is "School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure" and we have certainly found our treasure in Ms. Wetzel and her school lunch pirate crew. Thanks to our cafeteria staff for their dedication to making healthy lunch choices available to all of our Gladiators!
Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill - October 17 at 10:00 am
Riverheads Elementary will be participating in the Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill scheduled for this Thursday, October 17. Like many other schools in the state of Virginia, our students will be participating in the drill that morning.
You can read more about the Great Southeast Shakeout online and find additional resources for earthquake preparedness.
Donuts with Deputies - Saturday, October 19, 9 - 11 am
Please consider joining the Augusta County Sheriff's Office for Donuts with Deputies this Saturday, October 19 from 9 to 11 am in the Riverheads Elementary School Cafeteria.
Fall Picture Retakes - Friday, October 25
Trunk or Treating - October 30
You are invited to an FCCLA Trunk-or-Treating event at Riverheads High School from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, October 30. There will be opportunities for trunk-or-treating, games, face painting and snacks.
Good News Gladiators
Good News Gladiators
Each morning our Gladiators are asked to live up to our Red Pride Pledge by being safe, respectful, responsible, caring learners. Students who live up to our Riverheads Expectations for Success have a chance to be nominated by their teacher or another staff member for the honor of being a Good News Gladiator. Students who earn this honor are given a shout out over the announcements and are allowed to choose a book from our book vending machine.
Please join me in celebrating these Gladiators for showing their Red Pride!
We have been busy recognizing students this month, so be on the lookout for more Good News Gladiators each week.

Boo Bash Competition Winners
Congratulations to our 2nd grade team for winning the Boo Bash decorating contest on October 4. They went all out with their Barbie themed table and took the top prize.
Readers Theater
Thanks to Ms. Fitzgerald's class for inviting Mr. Matherly to their Readers Theater event last week. I enjoyed hearing both groups read "Trip to Washington DC". The students did a great job reading their individual parts, it was almost like being on a family road trip to DC.
