Mission Statement of the Columbus Pickleball Club
To promote the sport of pickleball as a fun, healthy, recreational activity for all skill levels in Columbus and the surrounding area.
Words from the President
September has already come to an end. I hope everyone got lots of play time this month with all the nice weather we have had. Donner is packed anytime I drive by early mornings and evenings. Ceraland is also bustling with groups and players. Hoping we can take this nice playing weather into October.
Another Discover Columbus Pickleball Tournament has come and gone. As many of you know, it takes a lot of planning and a ton of volunteers to make this event happen. We are so very lucky that we have such a wonderful group of members who always show up and generously give their time and talents to the club. We had 352 players this year which is the most we have ever had. Huge shout -out goes to Dean Layman, Cindy Massey and Juliana Bernabe for all the organizing and work. To all of our members who gave their time volunteering over the weekend, we thank you. The busy tournament went from 90 plus degrees on Friday and Saturday to 70 and rainy Sunday afternoon. This led to the tournament being moved indoors to TLAC around 2pm. Afternoon games were delayed with the last games finishing around 9:30pm. Everyone pitched in and got it done. So proud of our group! This will be the last year our annual tournament will be held at Donner. We voted at the annual meeting to move it to Ceraland moving forward. Exciting changes ahead!
Dunn Stadium is still waiting on permit approvals so there has been no progress there. Neighboring cities have gotten new courts including Brownstown and North Vernon. I hear they are worth a visit.
Don't forget on days you need to play indoors we have multiple local options: TLAC, Nexus Park, and FFY. Check for local schedules on Group Me.
Read on for exciting events coming up in October, November and December.
See you on the courts!
Julie

Remember
On September 11th, CPC players took a few minutes to reflect on events of 9/11. Judy C and Cindy M worked together to set aside a few minutes before play began. Cindy M gave a great presentation and passed out small flags to everyone. There was also a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. to commemorate the time that the first tower was hit.
Support a Good Cause
On September 24th, some CPC ladies played Purse Bingo to support the local chapter of Phi Beta Psi whose main purpose is fighting cancer. Julie G had a Bingo! to win a Michael Kors purse. Rose Ann D and Tami S also got a Bingo! but did not win the tie-breaker so each went home with a $5 bill as a consolation prize. Rose Ann also won a raffle prize. The rest were just happy to donate to a good cause!
Volunteer
Mary M was amazing in getting volunteers for the Mill Race Marathon! The group met at Donner Park on September 26th to get t-shirts, snack bags, and information. Some brought goodies. Some stayed to participate in serving, drop shots, and dinking competitions.
Mary, Bob M, and Cindy R were Course Marshals and each were responsible for a team of volunteers posted along the route whose job it was to guide runners to stay on course (and stop vehicles from driving onto the course). Rain was continuous on the day of the race (September 28th), but the CPC volunteers wore smiles along with their raincoats and boots.
Patty H with a smile and a wave
Cathy P with an encouraging sign
Linda T all bundled up
James Y applauding the runners
Dan and Jennifer V trying to keep a grip on their umbrella
Mel H staying dry
This is the third year Mary has recruited volunteers. Year 1 had 17 volunteers, Year 2 had 31, and this year there were 43 volunteers! CPC receives $10 per volunteer so it's a money-making opportunity as well as a lot of fun! See the article below about the impact the CPC volunteers have had on the Mill Race Marathon the last few years!
