PEEK AT THE WEEK

It's that time of year already! Kindergarten round up will be held this week at the AMR room at the high school. Many of our Cardinal's Nest and GSRP preschool students have appointments this upcoming week for kindergarten registration. Thank you to our office staff and preschool teachers for informing our families and encouraging them to make appointments to register their child. We will have poster size displays of the Lil' Cardinal's Summer Camp and Fall preschool registration flyers displayed at round up. Families will also receive a copy of our summer camp flyer in their child's round up packet.

Staff, please take note and continue to help us remind parents, bus drivers, bus lot, food service, local child care facilities, and all of our stakeholders affected by the GSRP program that due to parent teacher conferences there is no school for GSRP students this Thursday, April 25th. Our office will be contacting a list of stakeholders and Michelle Edwards will also being getting this information out this week. I appreciate that I have been seeing this information in your classroom newsletters. However, It never hurts to verbally remind parents and bus drivers at arrival and dismissal. Thank you for your help with this! I believe our Thursday, April 11th conferences went off without a hitch and this included no GSRP students accidentally showing up to school, or bus drivers thinking that they needed to pick up GSRP students.

REGISTRATION OPENING SOON FOR CARDINAL'S NEST 3 AND 4 YEAR OLD 2019-2020 PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

On May 1st online registration will begin for the Cardinal's Nest 3 and 4 year old half and full day preschool options. The link will be on the Davison Web Page under the Early Childhood tab on the Cardinal's Nest page. The Cardinal's Nest staff has been working closely with DCER to make registration and payment very convenient for families this year. Please help us get the word out to our Davison families. An open house will be held Thursday, April 24th from 5:30-7:00 at the Cardinal's Nest. Parents will be able to tour the building, visit the classrooms, and learn about programs and registration procedures. In order to assist our Cardinal's Nest families, teachers should have the registration page for the Lil' Cardinal's Summer Camp open on their classroom computers and should be offering parents a demonstration on how our online registration for the summer camp and next years preschool registration works.

Several pre-K to 7th grade parents in our district rely on latchkey services throughout the school year. Keeping our students safe in all of our programs in the District is our number one priority. With this being said, we had an unfortunate incident this past week where there was a glitch in the system and a latchkey student got on the bus instead of going to latchkey. Because of this, I have spoken to latchkey staff this past week to remind everyone that ALL latchkey staff need to be involved in the check in and check out procedures each day at latchkey. We have procedures in place to make sure that attendance rosters are updated regularly and any communication of updates are sent to latchkey staff. Emily Mckanna, our office assistant at Cardinal's Nest, sends out up to date attendance sheet via email and inner school mail to each site at the beginning of each of the nine sessions and anytime a new student enrolls or drops. Parents also fill out a transportation form when they enroll their child in latchkey for any transportation changes. They also receive fingerprinting information to enable them to check out their children on our ProCare attendance computers.

Remember that It is the responsibility of all latchkey staff to check attendance daily. If a student does not show up after school to latchkey, calls must be made to the student's emergency contacts to ensure the student is safe and where they are supposed to be. To make sure that our students are safe, we need the involvement of all latchkey staff (not just site supervisors) to be aware of the updated latchkey attendance roster for each day and also the emergency contacts on the child care licensing cards that are kept at each site. Site supervisors will be making sure that all staff are aware of the location of the attendance roster, the licensing child care cards with legal pick up information and the ProCare staff check in and parent check out process. This is one more very important reason for all latchkey staff to check their school email account daily.

We are all set to visit the William's property on May 15th for "Nature Day." We plan to load the AM/Full day buses at 9:15 and again at 10:45 to return. Our PM students should plan to load buses at 12:50 and again at 2:00 to return. Thomson's E-5 classes will also be at the property that day but we have been assured that we will be in two separate locations so that we will each have our own area. Let's hope for some great weather for our nature scavenger hunt!

EDUSTAFF 2019 Sub Appreciateion Week: EDUStaff, our guest teacher contractor, is looking to recognize outstanding employees during eductator appreciation week. Forms will be placed in teacher mailboxes on Monday. Every guest teacher who receives a postiive "EPF" will get a phone call from EDStaff and a certificate of apprciation in the mail. I highly encourage you to consider completing a form for any of our guest teachers that you request!

I will like to give out a huge appreciation shout out to Carrie Blazen for all of her hard work during the past couple of weeks on scheduling GSRP 2019-2020 intake appointments. We have about 90 appointments scheduled! All staff working intake appointments have attended one of the intake trainings at the GISD. Please note that our on site training will take place this Thursday, April 25th at 11:00 in one of our GSRP classrooms. This will be prior to parent teacher conferences starting at noon on Thursday. We appreciate everyone's help in getting our families registered for the upcoming year.

As part of the District's school improvement process, the Cardinal's Nest will be receiving a visit from the Advanced Ed team Our School Improvement chair Angie Hards met with me this past week to outline details of the visit. The Cardinal's Nest will be representing the early childhood program for our district. On May 6th, the team will visit the Cardinal's Nest and will be interviewing staff and parents and will also be visiting the Cardinal's Nest classrooms to observe student learning. The school improvement process has been in place for our K-12 programs in the past and this is the first year the early childhood programs will be involved. I want to thank the Cardinal's Nest staff for all the work they did to prepare the required documents that Angie Hards recently submitted to the Advanced Ed team.

I have heard back from a few staff about attendance for the Pledge of Allegiance at the Board meeting on May 6th. If you have not responded, please do so this week. I would like to get letters out to the families of our invited students.

The Davison Early Learning programs have been asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the Board Meeting on Monday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the AMR room at the High School. All Cardin al's Nest and GSRP preschool teachers are invited to attend and choose two students from your classroom to represent our early learning programs. I wish that we could invite all the students, but due to limitations on space, I am asking that you choose two students that are consistent Cardinal Code followers to attend. Lori and I will be talking to staff more about this, but we ask that you email us both to let us know if you can attend and the two students that you have invited. We will be sending a letter inviting the students and their family along with a map of the location. This is a great way to show off our wonderful staff and students!
