Superintendent's Message
The end is near. It’s hard to believe the last day of school is in a few short weeks. Saturday (May 11) our high school students had fun attending Prom at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Graduation is May 21. We know this time of year is an exciting time for all of our students and a chance to make some amazing memories.
In addition to the many school activities in and outside of the classrooms, we also celebrated our staff for Staff Appreciation Week (May 6-10). We couldn’t do what we do without our dedicated and hard-working staff. Each and every day our team works tirelessly to ensure our students are given the best education possible in the best facilities possible. Thank you to our Booster groups and other volunteers who made our staff feel special this month. Please take a moment before the end of the year to say ‘thank you.'
Friday (May 10) several students and staff members participated in the county-wide Special Olympics event in Elyria. It was a wonderful day of sportsmanship and I am proud of our team.
Congratulations to Avon High School junior Max Wojtus. He was recently honored with a Dazzle Award nomination for his portrayal of “Lurch” in the Addams Family musical. The Dazzle Awards, also known as the National High School Musical Awards Program, recognizes excellent performances and productions by students in 38 participating Northeast Ohio high schools. The awards ceremony will take place Saturday (May 18) at the KeyBank State Theatre downtown.
Last week we sent out a communication to families with updates from our Facilities Planning Team. Please take the time to read over the information. It is also posted on our district website. We will be presenting additional details during Thursday's (May 16) Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. at Avon Middle School.
Let’s finish strong Eagles! Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We will celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors in our annual Avon Avenues graduation issue which will be mailed to all residents later in June.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out.
Sincerely,
Ben Hodge

District receives Safety Intervention Grant
We are excited to announce that the Avon Local Schools is a recipient of the Safety Intervention Grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. These funds will allow us to purchase equipment that significantly enhances employee safety. The equipment we will purchase will allow us to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses associated with operational tasks within our buildings. We continue to explore and apply for grants that will improve the overall safety of our students, employees and buildings.

Last month the Auditor of State’s office presented the Avon Local Schools with an award for excellence in financial reporting for the audit period ending June 30, 2023. AHS students compete at Academic WorldQuest
Avon High School students Sam Cecil, DJ Latham, Aditya Rao, and Wolfgang Burgess recently attended the national Academic WorldQuest competition in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America, Academic WorldQuest tested students’ knowledge of geopolitics and offered participants access to experts from the State Department, NATO, the Department of Defense, and more. While the team didn’t place in the top three, they held their own and had a great experience! Special thanks go to Señor Williams at AHS for his coaching prior to the trip.
