I would like to take this opportunity to say welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a great summer and that you are getting settled in to the new school year. This year, we have both returning and new staff members at our latchkey sites. Latchkey sites throughout the District include the Cardinal's Nest, Gates, Hahn, and Hill. We aim to staff our latchkey sites with staff members that make your child feel welcome while providing them with consistent care before and/or after school. During latchkey hours, a little less structured but safe environment is what we strive to provide for your child. As a parent, you know that every child is different. Before or after school hours, some children may need to rest, some may need to be active and would like to participate in a group game, some may want to relax while doing an art project or talking with a friend, and some may want to spend some time working on homework. We also know that children have different nutritional needs and preferences of foods and what time a day they like to eat. At the Davison latchkey sites, we follow Michigan child care licensing rules and we offer children a choice of two snacks per day in two different food categories such as grains, dairy, fruits, or vegetables. Out of consideration for students with allergies to peanuts or tree nuts, Davison Community Schools will make an effort to ensure that no foods with obvious peanuts or tree nuts will be served or consumed at school. Please check out our staff below and read on to be familiar with Davison Latchkey registration and payment policies as well as some information about breakfast and after school snacks. There are ten latchkey sessions throughout the school year. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO MISS OUT ON SENDING THEIR CHILD TO A SESSION!! Families must to go online to the Davison Latchkey site under the DCER tab and register for each session BEFORE THE SESSION DEADLINE DATE. All latchkey families have been given a calendar with the session dates and deadline for payment and registration date for each of the sessions. This calendar is also posted on the Davison Community Schools website. Although we can empathize with families that miss a session registration date, we can not stray from our policy of having a complete roster with registered students on the last Thursday before each session begins. There are many considerations that go into planning each session such as need for staff, food, transportation, and child care licensing regulations such as child/adult ratio at each site. Session deadlines will remain firm. If you miss a registration deadline, you will need to make other arrangements for your child and you will be able to register for the next opened session. We will make efforts to remind families to register and pay by the session deadlines. However, once the deadline has past, the session will become unavailable online to register. Please keep your session calendar handy! The district will make every effort to get out reminders about each session's registration and payment deadline.

We know that children have varying nutritional needs and that nutrition affects the health and well being of all children.. At Davison latchkey, we follow Michigan child care licensing rules and we offer children a choice of two snacks per day in two different food categories (grains, dairy, fruits, or vegetables). Students may bring their own snacks as well as long as they follow the District's Wellness and Nutritional policy.

AM latchkey students may choose whether or not to eat during the morning session. We understand that students may want to eat at home before latchkey, during latchkey, or wait to eat school breakfast after arriving at their home school building. If your child would like to bring their own breakfast like a breakfast bar, protein bar, piece of fruit, etc. They may do so. However, we will not be accepting boxes of cereal for each student as in the past. We will keep some breakfast items on hand for students that would like to eat. These items would include breakfast bars, fruit, yogurt, and a few other choices that will rotate throughout the year. Water is always available and students are encouraged to drink water! Please remember to be mindful of our peanut/tree nut policy if you send a breakfast item with your child.
