Cornwall News
December 8, 2023
Dear Cornwall Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. Certainly this week came with some surprising news, but it’s been a good week at Cornwall School none the less. Our thoughts are with Heather as Mike and I move into our new roles for a little while.
A couple of quick items:
1: Recess coverage: One thing we have observed is that we feel like more recess coverage is necessary. Every recess, one of us will be joining the other recess monitors outside with students, and we will be focusing on eliminating roughhousing and ensuring student safety. Over the next few school days, we will look at our staffing patterns and figure out how to increase coverage even if an administrator has something in the school they have to deal with during that time.
2: How long we will be the administrators at CES? Many people have asked this, and we aren’t totally sure. We are currently planning on being here through the middle of January.
3: Administrator Meet and Greet next week: We would like to invite interested parents to an informal administrator meet and greet next Tuesday at 5:30 PM at Cornwall School. We had a chance to meet members of FOCS on Thursday, but would love to meet more parents, caregivers, and community members!
Please look below for other useful information, including information about what’s been going on in 1st grade. Thank you, and have great weekends!

Class Highlights ~ 1st Grade
Our first graders are working hard to grow as learners every day. Students are building reading fluency by mastering new types of word structures and practicing reading to themselves and others. In writing, they are stepping from sentences to short paragraphs about their opinions.
Through many math games, our young mathematicians are gaining confidence with addition, and are generating fact families to bridge into subtraction. First graders are also growing into their roles as students and community members by increasing their focus and stamina, practicing respectful listening, and collaborating through social problems. We are also growing our focus outward towards the many communities we are part of.
This week, students made a puzzle to represent the interlocking communities they are in, and carefully drew maps of our shared playground space.
School Concert
We had a wonderful band concert on Friday afternoon! The playing was impressive, and it was great to see students share the work they have been doing with their families.
Thanks to Sarah Metcalf for all she does for our kids!
Winter Craft Day ~ Dec 15!
Winter Craft Day is just around the corner - Join us on Friday December 15!
We will, once again, transform the multi-purpose room into a creative workshop filled with fun projects for students to make and enjoy, or spread the joy even further by gifting the crafts to others!
