Career Lesson from our Counseling office
Silverbrook 6th-grade students will be using the Xello online career program. Students will be able to explore careers related to their individual interests. They will take the first part of the “Matchmaker” career survey and get matched with careers that may be in their interest area. Students will be able to save their favorite careers in their online portfolios. They will have access to this portfolio throughout high school. Additional activities will be completed as part of their online ACP (Academic and Career Planning) portfolio. Students and families can access Xello anytime. This resource can be found under the student resources tab on the Silverbrook website.
Volleyball Intramurals
The goal of the Silverbrook Intramural Volleyball program is to allow students to further their volleyball skills in a fun and competitively balanced environment. The program is 4 weeks long, 2 sessions per week, for an hour after school. Early in the program, students will focus on developing and advancing their skills in bumping, setting, and serving. As the program progresses, students will be split by ability level and continue more appropriate development. The last few sessions will provide the students a chance to use their skills in competitively balanced competitions.
To participate, students must : have a completed Clubs and Activities Form, pay the $5 per sport activity fee, and have a completed sign-up form. Sign up form link
Intramural volleyball will start on Thursday, January 16th and run through Tuesday, February 11th. The program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 3:10-4:10.
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
As you know, the entire 5th grade will be attending a special concert at the HS on the morning of Tuesday, January 21st. Your music teachers will be preparing students for this event, but you can get the whole family involved, too! The theme of the concert this year is “Musical Vacation,” and they’ve programmed some wonderful selections for West Bend’s 4th and 5th graders. Please consider exploring the links below on your own.
Here is a link to a SPOTIFY PLAYLIST of the pieces
Here is a link to a RESOURCE GUIDE for background information and suggested activities.
We’d like our 5th graders to please DRESS UP on the day of the concert, as they are attending a fine arts performance and will be representing Silverbrook.
Happy listening!
5th Grade Vision Screening
5th grade students will be participating in a vision screening at Silverbrook on Friday, 1/31 at 8:15am with the District Nurse and the Lions Club.
Battle of the Books
Our library team is excited to start school book battles this week! We have 215 students participating in Battle of the Books this year, and we're so grateful to all of the families and staff encouraging our students to read! The state battle will take place the last week of February. Battle books are still available in the library as well as on the Sora app. Good luck to all teams participating!
Second Step
Week of 1/13/2025
5th Grade
Lesson: Community Solutions
Summary: In this lesson, your child will evaluate possible solutions to a community problem by thinking about the points of view of the people who are affected by the problem.
Try This at Home: Point out a problem in your neighborhood that affects other people. With your child, make a list of possible solutions to the problem. Ask your child how different groups in the community might feel about each solution.
6th Grade
Unit: Managing Relationships and Social Conflict
In this unit, students learn strategies for developing and maintaining healthy relationships, perspective-taking, and dealing with conflict. This unit’s content helps students learn to honor and understand personal and familial differences.
Lesson: You’re Changing
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will examine changes they’ve gone through and how those changes can affect their relationships.
Question: Share how one of your friendships or relationships has changed over time. Ask your child to share how some of their friendships have changed since starting middle school.
