High School Journalism Institute
High School Journalism Institute is a free opportunity for students to get actual hands-on experience in journalism. With guidance from professional mentors, participants use real journalism skills to report and photograph a 36-page newspaper, as well as blog and produce multimedia pieces. The institute is a collaboration between Oregon State University, Oregonian Media Group and other Oregon media organizations.

Oregon Tradeswomen’s Annual Career Fair is a FREE, interactive, trades-related career event highlighting apprenticeship and debt-free training options for lucrative careers in the skilled construction trades.
While focused on presenting these career options to female-identified students and job seekers, the fair is open to everyone and no registration required. Most workshops are managed by tradeswomen, demonstrating the power and potential of a truly diverse workforce.

Portland Metro Fire Camp
Portland Metro Fire Camp will host TWO free camps for individuals who identify as female ages 16 - 22.
- First Camp: Hosted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, this camp will take place from June 21 - 23 (Friday - Sunday) on the TVF&R training grounds located in Sherwood, Oregon.
- Second Camp: Hosted by Portland Fire & Rescue, this camp will take place from July 12 - 14 (Friday - Sunday) on the PF&R training grounds located in NE Portland.

Portland Police Bureau Cadet Program
The Police Cadet Program is designed to offer students ages 16-20 firsthand experience and training in the field of law enforcement while working individually or as a team to develop confidence and leadership skills that benefit any career choice. The Cadet program looks to achieve these goals through mentorship, classroom instruction, hands-on training and experiences.
Once accepted into the program, Cadets will be assigned to either North, East or Central precinct posts. Recruit Cadets must attend the Portland Police Bureau Cadet academy. Academy graduates will then transition to their individual posts for completion of the probationary process and regularly scheduled meetings. All posts provide training meetings on Sundays.
Gresham Oregon Fire Cadets
The Gresham Fire Cadet program provides opportunity for motivated young men and women to develop leadership, teamwork and responsibility skills while exploring the firefighting profession. Many former cadets are now career firefighters or respond with volunteer fire agencies. Click Here for more information.

The annual Carpenter Trades Youth Internship is open to high school juniors (rising seniors) who live in Clackamas, Clark, Columbia, Multnomah and Washington counties. Students selected as interns explore their career options in the construction trades by working for a General Contractor on a commercial building project in the Portland metro area for 8 weeks.
