Keeping you connected
A message from the principal
We are now halfway through the second quarter, and interim grades were posted on Monday, December 9, 2024. Please take a moment to review your student’s progress to ensure they are on track to achieve their desired grades. If their performance needs improvement, now is the time to take action—whether by encouraging better study habits, seeking additional support, or scheduling a Parent-Teacher Conference. Teachers are expected to update grades every two weeks, so regular monitoring is key.
As we approach the holiday break, we encourage everyone to rest and recharge so we can close out the school year strong. Attendance remains critical—please ensure your student arrives on time and ready to learn.
Looking ahead, we are excited to introduce two new initiatives for parents and guardians. Starting in January, we will host evening sessions covering various topics. Additionally, we are launching monthly volunteering opportunities. On the second Wednesday of each month, we invite the Mighty Men of Westlake to join us, while the fourth Wednesday will be dedicated to our Wonderful Women of Westlake. Stay tuned for more details!
We continue to encourage students to embody Westlake Spirit by demonstrating P.A.W.S: Pride in their school, a positive Attitude, Work ethic, and Self-discipline.
Finally, please note that students now have five minutes to transition between classes, with a warning tone at the four-minute mark. Hall sweeps are in effect, and students caught without a pass during these sweeps will be assigned Saturday School. We appreciate your support in helping students manage their time effectively.
Assistance Needed
Parents,
Please speak to your student about staying on campus during the school day. Once a student gets on a bus or is dropped off in our parking lot, they are OUR responsibility! They are NOT allowed to leave at any time to go to 7/11 or leave to take a walk.
Students are NEVER to open a door for anyone, at any time. All visitors MUST enter through the front doors/main office. Even if they know the student, they are not to open the door. Unfortunately, not everyone always has good intentions.
Parking Lot - Decorum
Parents - please slowdown in the student parking lot and follow the signs. There are adults parking in STUDENT parking spots to drop off their kids. It is making it difficult for our students because they have to wait for the adults to move to get in their spots and making them late for school. If you are dropping off your student in the morning, please pull up and drop them off at the curb and keep moving. It is a drop and go line. We have recently added more people and our SRO out there to assist. We want to keep everyone safe.
County Policy
Students will not be allowed to enter any classroom with a bookbag. This is a county policy, not a Westlake policy. Any student that does not abide will receive consequences. Please encourage students to use their locker. If they need assistance, tell them to come to the main office and we will gladly assist them.
No outside food, Door dash or Uber eats

Dress Code Policy
The CCPS Code of Student Conduct committee updated the student dress code for the new school year. Students will no longer be permitted to wear any top or shirt that does not fully cover their midriff area. The dress code emphasizes the role of parents and their responsibility to ensure their child is coming to school each day dressed appropriately. The update is outlined in the 2024-2025 Code of Student Conduct.

CCPS meals prepayment system moves to MySchoolBucks
CCPS meals prepayment system moves to MySchoolBucks Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has moved its meal prepayment system to MySchoolsBucks for the 2024-2025 school year. The system replaces MyPaymentsPlus and is accessible at any time. Parents with existing MySchoolBucks accounts can log into the system and load money by credit/debit card or e-check to their child’s meal account. With the new platform, parents are not able to divide funds between a meal account and a general account (used to buy a la carte items). Any money left on student accounts was moved to the new platform. Visit www.myschoolbucks.com to access or create a new account. Parents creating new accounts must know their child’s six-digit student identification number. The number is in ParentVue, on the main page for the desktop version, and under the main student menu in the mobile app (click on the three lines in the lower left-hand corner to view student’s ID which will show their ID number). A free MySchoolBucks mobile app is available in Google and Apple stores. The app icon is blue with My School Bucks written in white text in the square.
