THE LEAD DOG
The BHS Newsletter, 26th Edition: Monday, March 3rd, 2025
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
It's the end of the 3rd 9 weeks (this Friday), and Spring Break is in our vision... but we aren't quite there yet! Finish up these 9 weeks strong, get some rest and relaxation over Spring Break, and prepare for the end-of-the-year craziness! When we get back from Spring Break, the time will fly, and we'll have seniors walking the stage before you know it. Let that sink in, seniors and parents... Wow!
This week's message: Turning Challenges into Growth: Your Mindset Matters
Let's focus on the power of mindset. "If you have the right mindset... Obstacles can be opportunities. Setbacks can be springboards. Struggles can strengthen you. Adversity can be growth. Your perspective is up to you." - Kevin DeShazo
For Students:
- Embrace challenges: See them as chances to learn and grow.
- Learn from setbacks: Don't let them define you.
- Strengthen through struggles: Build resilience and grit.
- Choose your perspective: Focus on growth, not just the difficulty.
For Parents:
- Encourage resilience: Help your child see setbacks as learning opportunities.
- Support their struggles: Guide them, but don't solve every problem.
- Model a growth mindset: Show them how to turn challenges into growth.
- Reinforce that perspective is a choice.
"Everyone has a role in our students' education... the students, teachers and staff, the parents, and the community... Go Hounds!"

Happenings at Boerne HS:
- This past weekend, the Boerne HS Jazz Band competed at the Stevens HS Jazz Festival. They earned a "Superior" rating, and two individuals, Michael Miller and Kelly Utter, earned "Outstanding Soloist" awards. Students also learned from jazz performance professionals, like St. Mary's Dr. Adrian Ruiz and UNT's Rob Parton.
- The Boerne FFA Floriculture Team and Vet Science Team took first place at the Natalia Invitational this past weekend. Congrats!
- Last Wednesday, our Life Skills students participated in the "Get Fit" event held at the Boerne ISD Stadium. The students played and enjoyed many activities. Several of them said it was the "best day of the year!" Thanks to everyone who helped put it on and to the student volunteers, the PE Partners. See below for pictures.
- The Boerne Blaze basketball team had their annual Teal Team versus Black Team game last week at Champion HS. The Boerne HS participants were Sean Long, Ivan Ibarra, Olivia Martinez, Daniel Syamken, Carter Papacek, Brady Patin, and Blake Preston. Boerne HS also had alumni who participated and other current students who assisted. Also, a big thank you to the BHS Starlette Dance Team and the BHS Cheer Team for coming out to support the Boerne Blaze Athletes. See below for pictures from the game!
- Last week, the Boerne ISD Health Science PTECH welcomed its second Cohort. The 8th-grade Boerne ISD students were recognized at an "Acceptance Ceremony" at Boeren HS. Other pertinent information was shared with the students and parents. We are excited for these students and their families' future! Congratulations!
- During Advisory last week, Boerne HS conducted crucial CRASE (Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Episode) training for all students. This training, led by School Resource Officer (SRO) Fuentes, took place in the Auditorium, with each grade level (Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors) participating on separate days. The safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities. This CRASE training is one component of our comprehensive school safety plan. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all our students.
- The Boys' soccer team started the week off with a blowout, beating Veterans Memorial 7-1 on Monday. This game was made up from the previous week when it was postponed due to weather. After a tough 3-2 loss the following day to Smithson Valley, the boys' soccer team destroyed Champion Friday night at home on Senior Night, 6-2. This week, they travel to Alamo Heights on Tuesday and have an off day on Friday. Their overall record is 12-3-1 with a 10-2-1 district record. That is good for 2nd place in the district with about 2 weeks left. Good luck, boys!
- Girls' soccer won one, lost one, and tied one last week. On Monday, when they played a make-up game with Veterans Memorial, they won big, 4-0. Tuesday, they lost to Smithson Valley 3-0. On Friday, they came back with a last-minute goal to tie Champion 1-1. They will host Alamo Heights on Tuesday and have a day off on Friday. Their current record sits at 13-6-1, 8-4-1 in district. That is good for 4th place with 3 games left. Good luck, girls!
- Greyhound Baseball took a tough loss to Kerrville last Tuesday, 4-3. They bounced back in the SA Classic tournament this past weekend, going 5-0 to claim the Co-Championship with New Braunfels HS. The Hounds defeated El Paso Socorro (8-6), Sharyland Pioneer (7-3), Del Rio (12-2), Weatherford (7-4), and Reagan (11-5). Tomorrow, they will continue district play, hosting Kerrville, and then they will compete in the San Marcos tournament this weekend. Good luck, boys!
- Greyhound Softball had a tough week last week, losing to Veterans Memorial and Smithson Valley. They continue district play tomorrow, hosting Champion and traveling to Alamo Heights on Friday. Good luck, ladies!
- Greyhound Golf is participating in the Comfort Invitational at the Buckhorn Golf Course this week. The boys' event is today, and the Girls' event is on Wednesday. Good luck!
- Greyhound Track and Field finally had decent weather last week and were able to compete at the Hawk Relays at Canyon Lake HS. The Hounds competed well and took home many gold, silver, and bronze medals. This Thursday, they will travel to compete in the Alamo Heights Relays at Heroes Stadium. Good Luck, Hounds!
- With the better weather, Greyhound Tennis also returned to the courts this past weekend. The Hounds traveled to the Blossom Athletic Center to compete in the NEISD Spring Invitational. They will be off this week and during Spring Break.

Boerne HS Campus Behavior Expectations...
Parents,
We ask that you review our "Campus Behavior Expectations" with your student. If your student wants to be successful at Boerne HS academically, socially, and emotionally, these three simple, easy expectations can be followed. As faculty and staff, we plan to model these behaviors to our students daily. We will be visiting with and reminding our students about these expectations consistently and ask that you do the same.
Be prompt and productive - be where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there, and do what you are supposed to do.
Have respect for yourself and others - when you have respect, you make good, thoughtful choices considering everyone's feelings and beliefs.
See something, say something - be a voice for someone when they can't. If you see or know something is wrong, alert an adult you know ASAP. Don't overlook something you know is wrong.
