Lin Howe's 1st Holi Celebration - Thursday, March 20
Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is an important occasion, celebrated in India and by the people of Indian heritage all over the world. The festival marks the start of spring and celebrates good over evil. The main celebration entails throwing bright (non toxic) colored powder (gulal) at each other, filling the air with an assortment of colors.
We can’t wait to share this joyous and super fun celebration with the students of Linwood E. Howe. Thanks to our Cultural Affairs/Equity Committee we are able to make this happen on Thursday, March 20th at the end of the school day.
Please have your child wear WHITE/LIGHT CLOTHING and clothes they don’t mind getting color powder on (don’t worry- the powder is washable).
Students can opt out of participating. Please email your child's teacher if you would like them to opt out. We will have shower caps and you are welcome to bring swim goggles if you are sensitive about getting powder on your hair or face but still want to participate.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email:

“A Touch of Classical” By Axel Shamash Mr. Greg Holman's 5th grade class
This week we went to an assembly and got to see a pianist and composer named Beth Sussman. She played many different kinds of classical music, including Mozart, Hector Villa-Lobos, and more.
Some things I liked were that it had a classical music theme, and that she played music from all over the world. I also thought it was cool that she went to the same music school as Miles Davis: The Julliard School.
We all listened to Villa-Lobos’s superfast song and guessed the number of notes there were in it. The options were either 500 or less, 500-999, or over 1000. I guessed 500-999 but it turns out it was over 1000! The exact number was 1144. That’s a lot of notes! We also got to participate in a piece by African-American composer Nathaniel Dett by stomping and clapping while Sussman played along: stomp-clap-clap stomp-clap!
At the end of her presentation, Beth Sussman played her own composition inspired by “The Wizard of Oz”. I liked that her composition “The Wizard” was both exciting and slow at the same time. In conclusion, Beth Sussman is a good pianist and composer and her assembly was a really interesting one. I’m glad I got to see her in person.
Culver City Mobility Services Meeting
REMINDER:
Join Our Virtual Town Hall Meeting Next Week
Thursday, March 13, 2025*
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
We need your help as Culver City embarks on an exciting journey to develop a Comprehensive Mobility Services Plan. Culver City Your Way aims to identify how we can meet today’s mobility needs by evaluating Culver CityBus service and other current transportation options, identifying gaps, and uncovering ways to improve.
Culver City Your Way is looking for feedback from the community, riders, and stakeholders. This plan will outline strategies to improve travel in and around Culver City, as well as boost Culver CityBus ridership and enhance the overall customer experience for current and future riders. The new plan will bring together all of Culver City’s mobility services into one clear, unified vision.
Join us for a virtual Town Hall meeting to learn more about the project and be part of the process. Your input will help shape the vision for future transportation improvements and guide the priorities outlined in the plan.
Learn more about the Culver City Your Way project at CCYourWay.com.
*This meeting was rescheduled from February 27, 2025.
