The Hudson K-8 Newsletter provides pertinent information to keep you abreast of activities that impact our school.

Thanksgiving Day stands as a cherished national holiday in the United States, celebrated on Thursday, November 28, 2024. This tradition harkens back to 1621, when the Pilgrims, English colonists in Plymouth, and the Native American Wampanoag people came together for an autumn harvest feast. This event is widely regarded as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.

Throughout New England and Canada, colonists observed “thanksgivings,” dedicated days of prayer and gratitude for blessings such as safe travels, military victories, and bountiful harvests. Americans have embraced this rich tradition, modeling their Thanksgiving holiday after that historic 1621 feast shared between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims. Embracing this spirit of gratitude not only honors our past but strengthens the bonds of community and family today.

American Education Week is a nationwide celebration that honors the achievements and contributions of the entire education community, including teachers, support staff, and administrators. It is typically observed during the third week of November. This year American Education Week is November 18 - 22, 2024.

The Faculty vs. Student Newcomb game was held on October 24, 2024 @ 2:00 p.m. Everyone enjoyed an exciting game. The faculty won the game by a landslide.

Dear Families,

I am so excited to be jumping into my second year as the Math Coach at Hudson K8. As the Math Coach will work with grades K-5. I look forward to working with you and your scholar this year. We have so much planned and so much to accomplish! I can not wait to get started. Together I know we can lay the foundation to a successful start in your scholar’s educational voyage. I am so fortunate to be a part of that voyage as we work together to prepare your scholar for the future.

The purpose of a math coach is to improve outcomes for students by providing evidence-based professional learning to educators. Every level of the education system has a responsibility to provide equitable education to all learners. Goals set at each level work together to positively impact student learning and growth.

A little about me! I am a mother of three and a grandmother of two. This is my 27th year in education. My college background is in Social Work and Elementary Education. I spend my free time traveling and with family and friends.

Families + Schools = Student Success

In 2019, the Alabama Literacy Act (ALA) was signed into law to ensure that public school students are able to read at or above grade level by the end of third grade. See Ala. Code Section 16-6G-1, et. seq. To assist educators, parents, and community partners with the implementation of the ALA, the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) has worked collaboratively with various state and national organizations and stakeholders to develop a repository of resources and guidance. These resources include, but are not limited to the following:

• The ALA Implementation Guide: Phase I

• Alabama Literacy Act Implementation Guide Phase II

• An Administrators Guide for Implementing the ALA (Official release in fall 2021)

• The Alabama Coaching Framework

• The Alabama English Learner (EL) Framework (Official release by January 2022).

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.
