Principal's Pen
We are starting preparations for MAP testing. All students 3-5 will need headphones during MAP testing. Teachers are inventorying what students have and may be reaching out to request a new pair (for lost or broken headphones). If you aren’t sure if your child has a working set, feel free to reach out to their teacher to ask. I will be using our school instructional funds to purchase new sets for anyone who is unable to provide them to ensure all students have them for testing. Thanks in advance!
Next Year Enrollment
As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, it is time to assess our student enrollment. Please submit this form if your child will NOT be attending Ridgeway next year. We need to know as soon as possible or no later than April 5, 2024.
Unit Notes
Unit A
Save the date! Unit A math night is Tuesday, March 19 from 5:00-6:00. It is a carnival theme and will be so fun! It is open house style so we hope you can come join us. Unit A is sending home a lunch count paper for our upcoming field trip in April. Be on the lookout for this important paper! Thank you for all of the families that came to Munch N Read today. We cannot believe there are only two left this year! Save the date for our next Munch N Read on Friday April 5.
Unit B
All Unit B students received math homework today! Please review it with your student. Many students are showing up each day without snack. Our extra snack bins in each room are empty! Please check with your student each day to see if they packed a snack.
Unit C
We still have many students who do not have a working set of headphones at school. Please talk with your child and send a set to school in the next week if they don’t have a set here.
On Thursday, March 14, we will be going to MU School of Engineering for our field trip. If you have not returned your permission form and photo release, please return those first thing Monday. If your child did not pre-order a sack lunch, they need to make sure they have a lunch from home on that day as we will be eating “lunch” at 10:15 a.m. before we go. Also, please send a healthy (and substantial) snack for when we return to school about 1:15 p.m.
Specialist News
Narrative comprehension is an important part of language and learning in elementary school. One thing you can do at home when reading any story is talk about story elements. The story elements we focus on in language therapy are character, setting, problem, feeling, action, ending, and end feeling. These elements can be used with any story you are reading, and even movies or TV shows you are watching. You can discuss the elements while reading and ask questions about the elements after reading. The sequence of elements can also be used to help retell stories or tell your own stories!

Open positions in PTSA
•President: Looking for a way to get more involved in your child’s school experience and meet more parents? Then president is for you! No prior experience being on a board required and you will be very supported every step of the way by an incredible team. The time commitment is being present at the monthly meetings and about 1-2 hours of behind the scenes work once a month. If you have any questions about the position or know a parent who would be excellent at this please email brittanyeast23@gmail.com.
•Deputy Treasurer: Interested in getting a firsthand look on how extra funds are used at Ridgeway? Then deputy treasurer is for you! This is a support position to our Treasurer and perfect for getting your feet wet if you’ve been looking for a way to be more involved but worried about time and energy commitment. Please email ridgewayptsa@gmail.com with any questions.
•Yearbook Chair: Looking for more of a liaison position between parents and teachers? Then yearbook chair is for you! We have an excellent team of teachers leading students in both a yearbook and photography club but they could use extra help in making sure yearbooks get put together and finalized. *Must have volunteer clearance to be present on school grounds without supervision. Please email ridgewayptsa@gmail.com if interested.

- Your employer offers charitable donations
- You own a business whose goods and/or services could be donated for prize packages or silent auctions
- You don’t mind reaching out to organizations near or far via phone, email, or in-person to inquire about FunDay donations
- You don’t have a ton of time for calling or emailing, but you have interesting ideas and are willing to share them!
