The Riverwalk Roar: January, 19 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Lions!
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful weekend. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday as we observe the Federal holiday honoring the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (And yes, we’re carefully watching the weather for a potential wintry mix on Tuesday and Wednesday.)
This weekend, I worked a swim meet, and while standing on the pool deck watching the swimmers, I found myself reflecting on my one word for 2025 and its connection to Dr. King.
Last week, I shared my one word for 2025: growth. Growth is the process of learning, evolving, and striving to be better than yesterday. It’s not just about personal achievements but also about uplifting others and contributing to the greater good. Dr. King embodied the essence of growth. His vision for equality, justice, and love required relentless personal development, courage, and an unwavering commitment to building a better society.
Growth challenges us to break barriers, confront fears, and embrace change. Dr. King once said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” This timeless wisdom reminds us that growth is not a destination but a continuous process of doing what is right, even when it’s difficult.
For me, growth means striving to be a better leader, friend, spouse, father, mentor, and advocate for positive change. It means learning from setbacks, celebrating progress, and inspiring others to discover their potential. Dr. King’s legacy inspires me to approach growth with purpose and humility, knowing that true progress is achieved when we lift others as we climb.
As we honor his legacy, I’m committing to personal and collective growth to create a brighter future for all.
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton
At Riverwalk Academy, we believe in fostering leadership across all grade levels. In this heartwarming moment, one of our 9th grade students steps up to help a first grader carry her things to class, embodying the spirit of kindness and mentorship that we encourage throughout our school community.
