Low Vision Clinics
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Vision Support Program hosted two Low Vision Clinics in collaboration with Salus University during the months of April and May at the MCIU Building located at 2 W. Lafayette Street in Norristown.
The purpose of the Low Vision Clinic is to determine if a student with low vision could benefit from eyeglasses, low vision devices, and/or specialized training and can assist teachers with classroom programming needed to meet the educational needs of the student with low vision. Students with low vision have a vision loss that cannot be fully corrected using traditional glasses and experience interferences with daily tasks.
A Low Vision Optometrist from Salus University’s The William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center (WFVRC) conducted clinical low vision examinations on students at scheduled appointments. The Low Vision Optometrist has additional training and expertise in low vision care and is able to asses clinical visual functioning and match treatment options to the goals related to visual functioning. The low vision examinations provided students with clinical findings, eyeglasses, and low vision recommendations for school.
In addition, students were provided with low vision rehabilitation therapy. The Certified Low Vision Therapist works with the Low Vision Optometrist to provide students with instruction in visual efficiency and use of low vision devices. At the Low Vision Clinics at the MCIU, students were provided with instruction and use of low vision devices to use at school and home. Low Vision devices may include optical, electronic, and non-optical tools and techniques that increase visual information and allow the student to complete tasks more efficiently.

Students in our Life skills class (grades 2-4) painted gloves to represent a specific item they like. The children painted gloves to represent the signs of:
Butterfly
Basketball (and ball)
Fish
Bowling
Candy

This was done in the class to support inclusivity as one student in the class is deaf and uses ASL.
