Change of School Assignment (COSA)
Student Transfer Application Season Begins February 3, 2025. Montgomery County parents/guardians who wish to request a Change of School Assignment (COSA) for their children may begin the process during the upcoming transfer season, which starts in February. All COSA requests must be submitted no later than April 1, 2025. The transfer process begins in the home school, where parents/guardians may request the Change of School Assignment Information Booklet that contains the COSA form, describes the process and provides useful information. Beginning the first week of February, the COSA booklet will be available in schools and online. Click here for more information.
New for the 2025-2026 COSA transfer process:
- COSA request applications must be submitted online instead of the traditional paper form. COSA requests MUST be submitted via Synergy through ParentVue. When an application is submitted online, a “receipt” email notification will be sent to the parent/guardian submitting the request shortly after the administrative team of the student’s assigned home school receives the application.
- Students must be enrolled and registered in their assigned school pending the outcome of the COSA request. Kindergarten-aged children are expected to attend kindergarten orientation at their assigned school.
- Click here to read the MCPS media announcement about Change of School Assignments.
Attention 5th Grade families– If your child attends Beall on a COSA, you will automatically be assigned to your home school for 6th grade. An approved transfer is required in order to remain in the Richard Montgomery Cluster. Please feel free to contact the main office if you have questions.
