Time to be Ready for Anything!
Oh the Weather is so Delightful...
Please remember to send your child with clothes for all weather. We will be outside until it "feels like " 10 degrees. Students need to bring warm layers to enjoy their outside time. Please send your child with a change of clothes, just in case.
We Want to See You!
Dear Families,
The school year is off to a great start. The new year also often brings different colds and illnesses.
Francestown Elementary School believes regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic progress and overall development. Consistent attendance ensures that students remain engaged in classroom activities, keep up with the curriculum, and foster positive relationships with peers and teachers. Every day missed or shortened represents a lost opportunity for learning and growth. Please reference the ConVal School District Policy JH and Procedure JH-R.
While we understand that occasional absences due to illness or unavoidable circumstances are inevitable, we urge you to consider the impact of extended family vacations on your child's attendance. Extended absences disrupt the continuity of learning and may put your child at a disadvantage in terms of academic achievement and social integration. When a child is tardy or dismissed early they miss the opportunity to build relationships with teachers and peers and important educational experiences. There is no replacement for the learning that takes place daily in the classroom.
If any underlying issues or concerns contribute to your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to support you and your child in any way we can to ensure their success in school.
Warmly,
Rachel Lunan-Hill
Principal, Francestown Elementary School
Winter Benchmarking is Underway!
Dear Families,
At Francestown Elementary School, students take benchmark assessments three times a year. These assessments help guide instruction, determine next steps, and measure student growth and grade-level performance.
The upcoming assessment period is scheduled for January 13–24. These assessments include a combination of computer-based activities and one-on-one work with adults.
As part of our upcoming benchmark assessments, students in Kindergarten through third grade will participate in a dyslexia screener. This is in accordance with New Hampshire's law, Screening and Intervention for Dyslexia and Related Disorders (RSA 200:59), which took effect on September 26, 2023. The screener is designed to identify potential indicators or risk factors of dyslexia and related disorders. Please note that these screenings are not diagnostic tools but are meant to help identify students who may be at risk. This allows us to provide timely, systematic, and structured literacy interventions to support their success.
Once these assessments are completed, we will share the results with families.
A great way to support your child during this time is by ensuring they get plenty of sleep and have a nutritious breakfast to start their day.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Rachel Lunan-Hill

True Blue Coming Friday, January 17th
A musical production about the importance of being true to yourself and what you know is right is sure to ring true in everyone's hearts. It's hard to be an upstander and tough to be a bystander too. This production attempts to unpack some of these important concepts through theatre, music and dance and to teach children to care about themselves and others.

A Busy Week
We had a great week of learning and fun in 1st and 2nd grade. This week, in Math, we learned how to add in vertical form and subtract numbers within 20. In Literacy, we strengthened our reading skills through different center activities throughout the classroom. In Science, we learned what causes floods to occur. We also worked hard during our NWEA testing. Lastly, we ended our week with the TIGER Performance and FUN FRIYAY!
