February 16, 2025
We’ve had a fantastic week at school, and we hope you enjoy the long weekend with your loved ones! As a reminder, please be sure to complete any eLearning assignments.
Next week, we are excited to host our Leadership Day on Thursday. This special event is an opportunity to showcase our students’ leadership skills to our community and district. We are so proud of the amazing leaders in our school and look forward to sharing their talents with you!
Additionally, Friday is the last day to sign up for our Sweetheart Dance on February 27th. We hope you can join us for this special evening—it's a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy a fun night with a parent or guardian.
Enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing our Cubs back at school on Tuesday!
Warmest regards,
Andrew Shipman, Principal
Upcoming Events and Information
Hats and Hoods in the Building
Just a reminder that students should not be wearing hats or hoods while in the building. Students who have earned "Hat Day" as a celebration is different and teachers will be in touch about those days. We understand that it is winter and hats and/or hoods keep us warm, but these should not be worn while inside the building. Thank you!
Water Bottles- Water Only!
Students are welcome to bring water bottles to school. However, water bottles should ONLY have water in them. Water bottles should not have tea, soda, coffee, or any other beverage besides water. When water bottles spill and they have other beverages, it causes the floors to become sticky and attracts bugs. Thank you for your cooperation!
NO SCHOOL ON FEBRUARY 14 OR FEBRUARY 17!
There will be no school for students on Friday, February 14, and Monday, February 17. Monday will be a professional development day for teachers and staff. Enjoy your long weekend!
LAST DAY TO RSVP WILL BE FEBRUARY 21 AT 3:00!

Counselor's Corner
Most of you know Ms. Taylor Davis, our Technology Assistant at Crosswell. This semester she is completing her School Counseling internship with Mrs. Powell for her Master’s Degree. You may receive communications from her regarding your child participating in groups or sessions with her throughout the semester. She also teaches lessons weekly in all of their classrooms. We are fortunate to have Ms. Davis working with our students to help them achieve success in and beyond the classroom. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Powell, School Counselor, at dawnpowell@pickens.k12.sc.us or 864.397.1604. We look forward to a wonderful semester.
Thank you!
Mrs. Powell

Habit #5: Seek First to Understand Than to be Understood
Our habit for the month of February is Habit #5: Seek First to Understand Than to be Understood. It is important that we take time to listen to others and really hear what they are trying to say. We need to think about what they are saying and how they are feeling before we are quick to respond. When we seek first to understand, we show people we care about them and respect them. Practicing this great life skill helps us to avoid arguments and/or confusion.
7 Habits of Happy Kids
Fine Motor Skills at Home
Fine motor skills include the ability to make precise movements with the small muscles of your hands, wrists, and fingers. Fine motor skills require awareness and planning, coordination, strength, and precision. Countless every day tasks require fine motor skills so it is crucial that students develop and strengthen those skills (particularly in grades PreK-1). These skills are very important to the development of writing and utilizing scissors.
Examples of Fine Motor Skills
- writing
- coloring
- cutting with scissors
- folding clothes
- tying shoes
- fastening buttons or zipping zippers
- brushing teeth
