First Week Recap
And we're off!!! First week of remote learning when GREAT! A huge thank you to parents/guardians for all your support this week in helping your child become a successful remote learner and for being patient with any technical issues. We couldn’t do this without you!
Since our first days were a "soft opening," we spent time learning routines, becoming familiar with online platforms, getting to know one another, and establishing classroom culture. We will be getting into more academics during our second week together.
Upcoming Events
Aug. 31: First Day of School, Day begins at 9:15 a.m.
Sept. 4/7: No Classes, Labor Day Weekend
Sept. 14: Blended learning schedule begins
Nov. 3: No Classes, Professional Development
Nov. 4-5: Parent/Teacher Conferences
Helpful Tips for Remote Learning
1) A basket of books next to your child's workspace--a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Libraries are still open and a great place to start with a collection of books if you don't have access to a lot at home.
2) I encourage you to go onto https://www.getepic.com/ and sign up for a FREE 30 day trial. Students have free access to Epic during school hours only.
3) Download the 'dualless chrome extension' on your child's chrome book. Once downloaded, play around with the different split screens and teach your child how to use.
OR
4) Show your child how to split screens manually by clicking on the two boxes in the upper right hand corner. We went over this a lot, but it would be good practice to play around with it. This would be helpful when on sites like kahoot and quizizz.
5) I recommend purchasing blue light blocker glasses for your child to wear during screen time. Amazon has a ton of options.
6) During breaks, please help me in encouraging your child to walk away from the screen, run around outside, ride their bike, close their eyes, etc...
6) Review the supplies list linked below and have items ready by your child's workstation next week. If you need any assistance with supplies, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Educational Platform Survey
This was sent out to families this morning. If you haven't taken the survey yet, please do so ASAP.
Dear Families,
Below is a link to the parent survey that confirms the preferred educational platform you will be selecting for the first nine week marking period (minimum). Each option will be explained in detail on the survey, but the short version and difference between the two are BLENDED and REMOTE. “Blended” includes students physically attending school a portion of the time on alternating days and “Remote” will be students not physically attending school in person.
If you have more than one student at T.H.I.S., you MUST fill out one survey/form per child. A reminder to resubmit for additional students will be available after answering all questions. Please be sure to complete the survey(s) by Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
