Business Advisory Board Newsletter - Fall 2024
The Business Advisory Board is a committee of community business people, parents, and educators who work collaboratively on career development activities and curriculum. Our goal is to integrate the skills that will be needed in the workplace with what is learned in school, thereby enhancing our students’ preparation for the future in the workforce. Every year, a scholarship is given to outstanding business student(s) who meet specific criteria.

Stock Market Game!
As of September 23rd, students in College Money and Investments and the Stock Market Club have the opportunity to participate in the Stock Market Game challenge. The SIFMA (Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association) Foundation's acclaimed Stock Market Game program is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students of all ages in the world of economics, investing and personal finance, with a goal of preparing students for a financially independent future.
Long Island Workforce Development Summit
On October 1st, Mr. Virgilio had the opportunity to attend the First Annual Long Island Workforce Development Summit. Workforce development is a critical component to building a strong, sustainable labor supply that can meet the needs of businesses and industries in this region. The main objective of this event was to "educate the educators" on the multiple career opportunities available on Long Island within the trades and manufacturing industries. There is potential for well-paying careers that allow our students to work and live on Long Island.

BAB Scholarship Drive Underway 2024-2025
The Business Advisory Board has supported a generous scholarship to a graduating senior planning to study business. All donations, of any amount, are greatly appreciated. Donations made by cash or checks, made out to "Hewlett-Woodmere School District" can be sent to Mr. Joseph Virgilio, G.W. Hewlett HS, 60 Everit Ave, Hewlett, NY 11557. Let's keep the tradition going to provide support, assistance, and recognition, to our high school Business & Computer Science students.
