Primary Teachers have accepted the latest offer!
It’s important to inform our school community that the NZEI teachers have voted and that they have accepted the latest offer, bringing an end to negotiations, meetings, and strikes for this round. The Stanley Avenue staff are pleased that this is now behind them and that they can move forward with more clarity. The support and cooperation from the Stanley Avenue School community has been greatly received and appreciated.

John Parsons- Cyber Safety: Week 7
We have been fortunate to have the Cyber Safety expertise of John Parsons in our Te Aroha Community throughout the week. John spent a whole day at our school on Wednesday and presented to the Year 4- 8 students. Additionally, we were joined by St Joseph’s School, Year 4-8 students. Students gained a lot from these sessions. If you were unable to attend the Parent sessions you may want to ask your children the following questions.
1/ What did you learn from the John Parsons- Cyber Safety talk?
2/ How can you be even safer when online?
Year 4-8 Student Voice from John Parsons- Cyber Safety talks
I enjoyed the Cyber Safety talk because I learnt about how to keep myself safe online. I learnt that you shouldn’t give away information about yourself online. You should also not accept posts from people you do not know. Keep your personal information safe. You can not trust strangers on the internet.
Written by Yufan Wu
These were the things I learnt during the Cyber Safety talks.
Bedroom, bathroom and pyjamas should not be on the internet.
Put everything on social media on private settings and only accept real friends as friend requests.
Don’t make friends with people over the internet.
Don’t give other people or strangers your information and personal details.
Let people know that there is a parent watching you when you are online.
Never play games that are restricted beyond your age.

On Wednesday this week Stanley Ave had a visit from John Parsons, an expert in Cyber Safety for all ages. He taught us about how to stay safe online and how to protect ourselves from Cyber predators. He also told us a story of a young girl who got contacted by a predator online and he talked about how that attacker found her which was really interesting. Afterwards he talked about how he then had a chat with the girl and helped her set up a safer account online.
A big part of the session was when he was talking about building a safe and secure profile. Include your family, friends and community photos to show users online that you have loving people around you who care. John told us about how he was homeless when he was 13 but a kind young girl gave him a sandwich plus some clothes and gave him confidence to go back to school which pretty much turned his life around. He then advised us to be kind to others, because the smallest act can make someone's day. There was so much to take away from this lesson. We are very thankful that he came to see us.

Room 8 Pom Pom Creations
This year Room 8 made their yearly pom-pom creations. Following on from the Pukeko Museum Trip, we created our planets - viewed from afar. Then we created our Alien who lives on our planet and drew close-ups of their eyes. These were inspired arts from Elizabeth Thomson’s art at the Museum exhibition.
Next we learnt the art of pom-pom making and made awesome, fabulicious pom-poms. We then drew our aliens and planned our shopping lists at Kathy & Mrs Haack’s Craft Shop.
Finally, with the help of the sensational Kathy and Mrs Haack, we created our Aliens… we just have one last step to finish them - glitter
Here are our Before and After photos so far…
We are also creating name tags for our Aliens - check out our class blog for our finished Room 8 Pom-Pom Aliens 2023 display.
