MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DR. CRATES
Dear Castro Families,
Last week, we lost a Graham Middle School student in a tragic bicycle accident. Our deepest condolences go out to the student’s family and friends. MVWSD has updated the website with information about safe walking and biking routes to school. The link has biking routes, a Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety guide, and other tips for getting to school safely. Many Castro students walk, bike or use a scooter to get to school on their own. Please take a moment to talk with your child about safety to and from school. We all know that the streets surrounding Castro and Mistral are very busy at drop off and pickup times. Please continue to be extra observant.
Sincerely,
Dr. Judy Crates

Speaking respectfully about mask choices
As mask mandates change at MVWSD, it is important to respect the decisions of individuals and families as they choose to mask or not mask while outdoors at school (indoor masks are still required). Staff members will support students with respectful conversations on campus. We encourage you to talk with your children about your family’s choices, and about communicating empathy and understanding for others’ choices. For tips on how students can respectfully speak up and speak out, see this helpful infographic. We know our students will be upstanders and take care of each other!
