SACS TO BFA: A DRAMA WORKSHOP UNITING PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE PERFORMERS
BFA drama teacher, Susan Palmer, brought a dozen BFA drama improvisation students to a special midday lesson at SACS on Wednesday, May 15th. A number of the visitors were former St. Albans City School students. Those present from City School were a third grade group scheduled for a lesson with Ms. Maher and a selected group of 7/8 drama students to learn from their older peers. The workshop began with a warmup activity followed by some improvised acting situations. For example, students had to open up a box and express surprise or generate other responses in a convincing manner. Although the time for working together was short, the BFA drama group visit had the extra benefit of introducing our drama students to the BFA drama staff and students they will be joining at BFA once they graduate from SACS.
THE THERMOS PROJECT: STUDENTS INNOVATE WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS
Mr. Rouleau and Ms. Parizo's students have been tasked with creating an effective heat retaining container for hot water from materials slated for the recycling process. On the first day of the week-long project, small groups of the students researched and brainstormed ideas their thermos (5-16-2024). They returned the next day with construction materials to build their projects. Hot water was heated and added to the students creations and temperature gauges used to follow the water cooling process. The students will have chances to refine or redesign their project Monday, May 20th - 22nd. On Thursday a contest will be held to determine the design of the best thermos-like project.
NAVIGATORS (EMMONS) DAIRY IN THE CLASSROOM: CHEESEMAKING
The 'Dairy in the Classroom' educator also visited Ms. Emmons classroom to teach students about cheesemaking. Similar to Ms. Borst's classroom experience, the students heated up milk to make cheese. They also examined a cow skull and learned about goats.
RECESS BALLS TO THE LEARNING COMMUNITY OF A WALKING WEDNESDAY RAFFLE WINNER
A student from Team Imagination had her name pulled in a raffle for Walking Wednesday participants. As a result, she got to chose the type of ball their community needed for recess. She selected a soccer ball. She also was given a small gaga ball. 5-17-2024
Another raffle winner will be selected next week after the Walking Wednesday on May 22nd.
