December was an eventful and enriching month for our third-grade students! In social studies, we explored the theme of Citizenship and Participation. Students learned about the various ways U.S. citizens can make a difference in their communities, including voting, attending public meetings, participating in peaceful demonstrations, and supporting candidates. To bring these lessons to life, we staged a mock peaceful demonstration where students showed support for an imaginary after-school program—either a Sports Club or a STEM Club. The activity culminated in students walking through the third-grade classrooms, chanting slogans and advocating for their chosen club, fostering an engaging and practical understanding of civic engagement.
