A Note From Mrs. Brust & Dr. Koppel
Happy MONDAY, Edgar Road!
We hope that each of you had a relaxing weekend focused on family and spending time with one another.
Don't forget:
Tuesday, April 2nd, is Election Day, and Edgar Road Elementary School has been designated as an official polling location by the St. Louis County Board of Elections. As we prepare to host this voting location on our school campus, we have made every effort to arrange a proper voting area while also keeping students and staff safe, secure and separate from local voters.
Some of the steps we are taking include:
- Voters will enter and exit our building through the gym entrance and will not be allowed in any other part of the building.
- The doors between the gym entry and the rest of the building will be locked, and students will not be able to use these restrooms or foyer space.
- All student transitions will be supported by a staff member, and there will be extra staff members stationed in the hallways for when students need to transition through the hallways.
- WGPD Officers/School Resource Officers will have an extra presence on campus.
- All Reccesses will take place on the South Playground with extra adult supervision.
We are working closely with Central Office and our school resource officers to ensure that we provide voters and students a safe experience. Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we work to keep all students safe at school.
As We Plan Ahead: 2024-2025 Class Placements
The Edgar Road staff is committed to knowing and valuing every child as a unique individual and responding to their specific needs. We also recognize that no one knows a child better than their parent or trusted adult. The purpose of the following form (HERE) is to provide parents an opportunity to share any information that they believe needs to be highly considered when we are organizing classes for next school year.
We respectfully ask that you do not put down a teacher's name, as we cannot honor requests for a specific teacher. The information that is shared on this form will be used in a collaborative process among classroom teachers, specialists, special educators, counselors, and administrators. If you have more than one child please complete the form for each child.
If you believe that there is confidential information that needs to be communicated to the administration before classes are organized, please contact Emily Burst, Brandy Koppel, or Sara Luesse via email or phone.
Please complete this form by 3:30 PM on Sunday April 19, 2024.
Solar Eclipse April 8th
On April 8, a total solar eclipse will be making its way across North America. This is the last solar eclipse we will see in the Webster area until 2045! We are excited to have the opportunity to view this eclipse in our own backyard! We have activities planned to celebrate this special event.
Safety is our top priority, and we would like both you and your student to be aware of the precautionary steps we are putting in place. For this unique event, safety glasses will be provided by the WGSD to all students and school personnel. If you wish to opt out of the experience, please complete the attached form or reach out to your child's classroom teacher for a printed copy of the form.
Here is a brief timeline of the eclipse event:
Partial Solar Eclipse Begins: 12:42:41 pm
Maximum Eclipse at 98.6% totality: 2:00:33 pm
Partial Solar Eclipse Ends: 3:17:09 pm
It’s important to note that our school dismissal occurs before the partial eclipse ends. It is imperative to wear safety glasses and refrain from looking directly at the eclipse without protection throughout the event.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to a safe and enjoyable eclipse viewing event.
A Note From Mrs. Eckert:
This is Lisa Eckert, the school secretary. My soon to be Kindergartner, Gabe, has autism. We have known for 3 years now and have learned so much about autism since then. 1 of every 36 children have autism. Boys are 4 times more likely to have autism than girls. Most importantly, we have learned that it takes a great team and a village of people who love the child to make it through a different journey. It can also be difficult sometimes, but just different. And in my position as a school secretary, I have been able to see the amount of kindness that is given to children of all different abilities and it is truly unbelievable and appreciated more than I can say! Autism just makes kids different and that's ok! Keep on treating everyone with kindness!

Summer Learning Opportunities
Information From Previous Newsletters
Equity in Action Committee Community Recognition
The Webster Groves School District's Equity in Action Committee values and encourages peer-to-peer recognition for equity work. In 2021, the EIA launched a Community Recognition initiative, which provides an opportunity for members of the community to recognize individuals (i.e. students, teachers, parents, friends, community members, etc.), schools, businesses, and organizations who make contributions towards creating and cultivating a culture of dignity that values all human beings within the WGSD. To learn more about this opportunity and to make a recognition, please go to Community Recognition. The deadline is April 19, 2024.
A Note From The Library
I am asking students, parents and staff of Edgar Road to share their favorite childhood book. It can be a picture book or chapter book that is elementary level/appropriate. I am coordinating with the high school art classes to create oversized book spines that will go in the white recesses of the upper wall in the library, creating the look of a bookshelf. I will collect all of the responses, find the top votes and use those books for the spines. If you'd like to participate, please fill out the Google Form HERE. Thank you!
Legislation & Public Education
District families who would be interested in learning more about legislation being proposed that would impact public education, including our district, we’re providing you with two opportunities to do so.
First, we are hosting three in-person meetings on the following Fridays from 8-9 a.m. at our district service center (3232 S. Brentwood Blvd): March 8, April 5, and May 10. Participants will learn about bills that have been proposed and/or are working their way through the legislative process. If you plan to attend, please make sure to bring a drivers license or MO ID so that you can be checked in through our visitor management system.
Next, we’re going to be sending out a regular email which will allow you to get updates on education-related bills being presented and discussed in Jefferson City. In order to not overwhelm our readers, it’s our intent for this communication to be no more than 1-2 pages in length. For this reason, we will limit the number of bills included in the weekly update.
In addition to the weekly communication, we will also provide readers with special legislative “alerts” so that one can be informed when significant action has been taken with a bill. In order to receive these updates, you must sign up here. Only those who join will receive the weekly updates and alerts.
