Congratulation, Mrs. Fett!
Congratulations to Mrs. Marissa Fett for being named a MISD Literacy Ambassador for the 2024-25 school year!
Mrs. Fett is a resource room teacher at Mark Twain Elementary School. She was nominated by Kate Mulligan, Director of Elementary Education, and Jane Sturgell, Director of Special Education.
“Mrs. Fett is a dedicated and passionate educator who tirelessly supports all students in their journey to becoming confident readers,” stated her nomination letter. “As a Special Education Resource Teacher, she not only brings expertise in literacy instruction but also embodies the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. Her ability to instill a love of reading in students, model effective instructional strategies, and share best practices with colleagues makes her an invaluable leader in our school community.”
Each public school district in Macomb County elects an ambassador based upon their dedication to supporting literacy in their school communities. This honor was started by the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) to promote literacy in Macomb County
Therapy Dogs Visit 3rd Grade
Third Graders recently enjoyed a visit with a therapy dog. During their Media Center time, Mrs. Cracchiolo’s class was visited by “Iron” and Mrs. Deimel’s class was visited by “Reba”. Students were able to learn about what therapy dogs do, and they got to read with Reba and Iron. They also got to see a few tricks, pet the dogs, and ask lots of questions about therapy dogs.
This visit was lots of fun and very entertaining for the students, as well as calming and educational. Here is what the students thought of the experience:
"It was really cool because he was doing a bunch of tricks. He even played the drums. I learned you can teach animals a bunch of different things." - Sophia B.
"It was really fun to have a dog at our school. I think we should do it more. It makes me want a therapy dog. If you use treats they learn from it." -Ander B.
"My favorite thing was the end of reading with the therapy dog, because we got to pet Reba and thank her owner."- Brooklynn S.
"It was pretty cool because we got to pet the dog and they gave us a cool bookmark and pencil." - Jaxon C.
The Cardboard Arcade Returns!
Twain’s 3rd Annual Cardboard Arcade Night will be held on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:30-7:30 PM. The students that signed up will be designing and building an arcade game using cardboard boxes and other materials at home. All Twain families will have the opportunity to come to play the games. Fun Passes will be available for $2 each that evening. All of the donations will go towards our Makerspace/STEM area in the Media Center. If your child would like to attend, they must be with a parent. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lentine. We look forward to seeing the creations!

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
