🔭Pacific Science Center Day!! Physics 🧪
2nd Grade - 5th Grade had the opportunity to learn from the Pacific Science Center! They started with an assembly that demonstrated the science behind static electricity, molecules, states of matter and even got to experience liquid nitrogen! Then the people from the Pacific Science Center came to classrooms for experiments! Finally, classes got to attend stations in the Mat Room to learn even more about physics through different experiements and activities. The Science Center was able to do this free of charge through a grant!! Ask your student about this!
📗Read, Read, READ!! 📚
Students are expected to read 30 min each night at home. This can include being read to (if unable to read) and also can include completing units on Lexia. The only way to become a strong reader is to....READ!!! If your child is struggling to find a book they like, please let their teacher know and we can help!! Don't forget to sign the reading paper so they can have their name in the drawing!
Message for our School Nurse
School Illness Policy
Cold and flu season has arrived!
It is common to wonder when to send your student to school or when to keep them home.
Please visit our MVSD Student Health Services website for all current health information!
Hearing Screenings
Little Mountain Elementary students will receive hearing screenings on December 10, 2024
Mount Vernon School District conducts vision and hearing screenings every autumn for students in the following grades: Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.
We also screen students in any grade if teachers or parents report difficulties with vision or hearing.
Students who appear to have vision or hearing loss at screening will receive a letter from the school referring your child to a doctor for a more in-depth examination. Letters are usually sent home before winter break.
Please visit our MVSD Student Health Services Screenings page for more information on annual health screenings.
Fall is Here
Dear Parents,
This is just a friendly reminder that students need to come to school properly dressed for the weather. As the weather gets colder and wet, students need to have the following items: winter hat, mittens/gloves, and a proper winter jacket. Despite the cold weather, we will be going outside , unless there has been a weather advisory stating that we cannot go outside. If you need resources for warm clothing, please email Ms. Ridenour, our school counselor. pridenour@mvsd320.org
Attendance
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are off to a great start in the 2024-25 school year. As we get further into the school year, we would like to remind you of the importance of good attendance for all students. Every day a student is absent is a lost opportunity for learning. Too many absences not only can affect achievement for the absent student. While occasional absences are inevitable, please prioritize regular attendance.
Missing more than 10% of the school year or 18 days of school can impact your child’s social development, academic learning, and path toward high school graduation. If a problem arises with health, food, transportation, housing, or anything else, please call your child’s school or the district office so we can assist.
If your child has 7 unexcused absences in a month or 15 unexcused absences in a year, a petition will be filed with the Juvenile Court, and intervention measures like a Community Engagement Board may be initiated. Continued truancy may require court involvement. To report an absence, contact your child’s school within 5 school days via phone, email, text, or written note.
The school will work with you and relevant healthcare providers to support learning for extended illness. We understand that there are times when students may need to miss school, even with communication from parents or caregivers. However, frequent absences can add up and affect
We have a new document that you need to fill out if you will be taking an extended vacation. Please remember to notify the office and your teacher so that we can go over this form with you. We ask that you schedule time with Mr. Shepherd or Mrs. Moe to ensure you have all of the information and work prior to leaving.
Family Insight and Perspective Survey
We still need your input. Family perspective is a critical piece for our work as a building supporting the growth of your student. Please respond in the language you are most comfortable with. We will be reaching out in January to gather more perspective on how to best partner with you.
