Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
What a great day we had for our school Cross Country on Friday last week. It was awesome to see our kids give their best effort and to see the support of whānau, too.
A BIG congratulations to our Tamariki who placed in the top 3 of their races, but also to those tamariki who just got out there and completed the cross country, even if it is not something they really enjoy or look forward to. Tino Pai.
A couple of requests following the Cross Country:
We understand that some children may need a little extra motivation to participate in school events like Cross Country or similar activities. However, we kindly request that any treats or rewards, such as McDonald's or lollies, be saved until after school hours.
Providing these incentives during the school day can sometimes create challenges or distractions for other students. Additionally, we ask that you refrain from bringing frozen drinks or rewards for your child's friends, as this could lead to unintended complications.
Smart Watches and Cell Phones
In line with the new government legislation regarding the 'Away for the Day' policy, we would like to remind you that smartwatches, including those capable of making calls, should be kept away during school hours.
We understand and appreciate that some children wear smartwatches to ensure contact-ability after school, and we support this practice. However, during the school day, these devices need to be put away.
We kindly request your cooperation in adhering to this policy, as it aims to create a focused and distraction-free learning environment for our students.
School Uniform - Colder Months
As the weather gets colder, some children may prefer to wear long pants or leggings. We have trousers available for sale at the school office and school shop or they can wear navy leggings under their skorts. Alternatively, they can wear plain navy track pants similar to the ones found at the warehouse. We also have rain jackets available which are a great option for those who bike, walk or scooter to school.
Polo Shirt Delay
We would like to apologise for the polo shirt delay due to a number of our sizes being out of stock. The factory had a big run with our Royal Blue material and ran out of stock. We have been informed that these polos should be back in stock within the next week.
Using the Dairy in the morning before school.
We have recently been notified of the number of children visiting our two local dairies before school to purchase lollies. Can we please ask that if you are giving your children money for the dairy, they do not purchase lollies to have at school. We all know the effect that sugar has on our tamariki, and this does not set them up for success.
Teacher Only Day and Kings Birthday.
Before our next school newsletter, we will have King's Birthday on Monday, June 3 and a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday, June 4. We have written previously in newsletters as to why this teacher-only day has been set for this day. Please note, our school is closed for instruction on this day.

The theme that we are focusing on this term is Manaakitanga/Respect. Last week was our final week focusing on Whakatau I Te Taiao/ Respect for our Environment where we learnt the importance of feeding the earth so it can continue to feed us. We played an activity that gave the kids a chance to get creative where they came up with new or different ways to use a piece of recycling. This week we started our new focus on Manaaki Ki Te Kura/ Respect for our school we included activities such as ’What’s the time mr wolf’ and ‘Describe this’ for the kids to show their leadership and integrity skills when they have a reliever in their class.

Please include your child’s name, room and reason for absence.
If your child arrives at school after 8.40am they are late. Please ensure they sign in at the office before going to class. Thank you.
As part of our School-Links communication system, an automated text message will go out to all unexplained absences. This number is a reply once only.
While we understand that families sometimes need to take time away from school, it is essential that we as a school are notified.
Any absence longer than 20 school days will need to be approved in advance by the school principal. You can do this by sending an email to papamoaprimary@papamoa.school.nz explaining the reason for your child's absence and the dates they will be away. If your child is absent for longer than 20 school days the MOE instructs us to remove a child from our school roll. If you live outside of our school zone there is no guarantee that your child will be able to re-enrol at Pāpāmoa Primary School. It's important to keep communication open between us. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in your child's education.
